Summary:

Maintains all regulatory and safety standards. Supervises and coordinates activities of personnel engaged in performing medical and pathology tests required for quality control of processes and products by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

    • Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
    • Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of process or equipment and to diagnose malfunctions.
    • Responsible for ordering materials, supplies, reagents, stains, etc. and submit copies of the Packing Slips to the Corporate Office.
    • Responsible for working with Lab Assistants in duties related to supplies orders.
    • Recommends to the Lab Director and Lab Manager ways to improve processes and workflow to improve TAT and quality of results.
    • Adjusts formulas and processes based on test results.
    • Tests and analyzes sample products.
    • Conducts research to develop custom products and investigates complaints about existing products.
    • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet testing schedules.
    • Recommends measures to improve testing procedures and use of equipment.
    • Analyzes and resolves or assists workers in solving work problems.
    • Maintains time and testing records.
    • Arranges and manages courier services.
    • Troubleshoots problems regarding all aspects of lab operations, including courier, IT, supplies, reporting, etc.
    • Develops, improves, and consults with Medical Director/Laboratory Manager on QA and QC policies and procedures.
    • Maintains regulatory documentation, training, and department activities to ensure laboratory compliance.
    • Be familiar and communicate with NovoPath representatives to optimize NovoPath lab functions after discussion with Lab Manager and Medical Director

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities include all technical operations of the lab from ASC conformity with requisitions to proper routing of specimens through reporting to physicians and facilities.

Education/Experience:

Minimum of fifth year college or university program certificate or degree; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

    • Licensed by FL DOH: Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
    • Associate degree in laboratory science and/or histotechnology with at least 5 years of training and experience in high complexity testing required.
    • Current ASCP certification (HT or HTL) preferred.
    • Knowledge of pathology laboratory regulations CAP, CLIA. required
    • At least 2 years of experience leading a histology team.

 

 

Communication Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present and communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and Access software.

 

Equipment:

Familiar and demonstrates ability to work with all laboratory equipment. Able to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
