Job Title: Medication Aide

SUMMARY
The Medication Aide performs a variety of resident care duties including administering medication, recording
medication dosages and taking and recording vital signs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• gives/delivers routine daily medications to residents, either prescription as prescribed or
non-prescription, with RN delegation
• coordinates with medical professionals to assist with resident care and medications
• follows written or verbal instructions on how to manage medications
• records medication dosages and times
• observes residents and documents changes in their condition
• upholds all health and safety standards
• responds to all emergency signals to identify residents’ needs
• reports any concerns or issues about residents to supervisor and/or appropriate parties
• ensures equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned
• takes and records vital signs with RN delegation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Education and/or Experience
• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or 0-3 months related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Communication Skills
Ability to:
• read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals
• write routine reports and correspondence
• speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization

Mathematical Skills ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals

Reasoning Ability
Ability to:
• apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral
instructions
• deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Computer Skills competency with Microsoft Office Suite

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
• is frequently required to sit and use hands to operate telephone, type and operate computer and mouse
• is frequently required to talk, hear, and bend and twist neck
• may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job:
• the employee is in a typical office environment
• the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally noisy
