Job Title: Caregiver

Reports To: Executive Director or Assistant Executive Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


SUMMARY

The Caregiver assists residents with activities of daily living and other pertinent care and support needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Serves meals and assists residents with meal time needs.

  • Accompanies residents on shopping trips and instructs and counsels residents in purchase of personal items.

  • Aids staff in administering therapeutic activities, such as physical exercises, occupational arts and crafts, and recreational games, to residents.

  • Redirects disruptive residents to prevent injury to themselves and others.

  • Observes and documents residents' behaviors, such as speech production, and feeding patterns to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals.

  • Attends to routine activities of daily living (ADL) of residents.

  • Gives medications as prescribed by physician with RN delegation.

  • Takes and records weight and vital signs with RN delegation.

  • Engages with residents and participates with activities, programs and socials both scheduled and non-scheduled.

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of the residents at all times.

  • Follows residents’ care plan as written and properly documents as required. 

  • Reports and documents emergency incidents.

  • Attends mandatory training, in-service meetings and completes continuing education requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or zero to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • First Aid/CPR, Medication management preferred.  Other field and position related skills, qualifications and training desirable.  

  • Ability to multitask.

  • Ability to make quick decisions in life threatening situations, to work as part of a team, dedication to detail and reporting.


Communication Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 


Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
