Job Title:         Resident Care Aide

Department:   Care Staff

Reports To:     Executive Director or Assistant Executive Director

FLSA Status:   Non-Exempt

 

SUMMARY

The Resident Care Coordinator assists resident with activities of daily living and other pertinent care and support needs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Serves meals and eats with residents to act as role model.
  • Accompanies residents on shopping trips and instructs and counsels residents in purchase of personal items.
  • Aids staff in administering therapeutic activities, such as physical exercises, occupational arts and crafts, and recreational games, to residents.
  • Restrains disruptive residents to prevent injury to themselves and others.
  • Observes and documents residents' behaviors, such as speech production, feeding patterns, and toilet training, to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals.
  • Attends to routine health-care needs of residents.
  • Gives medications as prescribed by physician.
  • Trains parents or guardians in care of deinstitutionalized residents.
  • Engage with residents and participate with activities, programs and socials both scheduled and non-scheduled.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of the resident at all times.
  • Follows residents care plan as written and properly documented as required.
  • Reports and document emergency incidents.
  • Attends mandatory training, in-service meetings and complete continuing education requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 QUALIFiCATIONS

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or zero to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification of personal care assistance training from approved technical institution.
  • First Aid/CPR, Medication management required.  Other field and position related skills, qualifications and training desirable. 
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to make quick decisions in life threatening situations, to work as part of a team, dedication to detail and reporting.

 

Communication Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
