Star Therapeutics is seeking a highly skilled, enthusiastic and motivated Scientist II with a passion for interrogating novel biological questions and fearless in learning and applying new skills and techniques to answer such questions. The ideal candidate has a broad and deep understanding of immunology and cellular biology and must have a capability to dig into the literature to understand relevant biology and identify appropriate studies and experiments to efficiently validate/invalidate hypotheses to support discovery and target validation efforts.
The Scientist will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and work closely with members of the Research and Translational teams drawing upon a wealth of knowledge and experience with an established and successful team to help drive a discovery engine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in advancing ideas into full-fledged programs, creating a pipeline of innovative therapies spanning multiple therapeutic areas.
Primary Responsibilities
- Think strategically and creatively about science.
- Design and conduct hypothesis-driven in vitro research based on a strong understanding of underlying disease processes to validate/invalidate new target ideas.
- Collaborate with Research and Translational groups to take advantage of internal knowledge and resources to develop an effective and efficient experimental plan.
- Work independently to execute and troubleshoot assays to generate high quality data that provide interpretable results.
- Analyze, review, interpret, and communicate data and findings to the research organization to enable program go/no-go decisions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Technical proficiency in various cellular and immunological based assays including flow cytometry, ELISA, lymphocyte and myeloid cell activation assays.
- Proficiency in reading literature, and a proven track record of identifying pertinent and feasible experiments to learn and adapt/apply to the question at hand.
- Proven track record of effectively working with cross-functional team in a fast-paced work environment, to achieve group goals while contributing at a high level to solve problems and effectively manage time and priorities.
- Demonstrated experience and strong aptitude for assay development, experimental design and efficient execution.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience in drug discovery, development, and/or translational research in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical industry preferred but not required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Professional Experience
PhD with 2+ years of post-doctoral research experience (industry experience preferred) in the field of immunology, autoimmune diseases, cellular biology or a related discipline, or a M.S. with >5 years experience in academia, biotechnology/pharmaceutical company, in a biology or drug discovery group.
Salary Range:
The hiring salary range for candidates residing in California for this position is $116,000 to $145,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation geographic location, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for bonus, benefits, and participation in Company’s stock option plan.
