Star Therapeutics, Inc. is seeking a Director of Human Resources with strong technical skills and previous experience in biotech to lead the HR function for the company. The right candidate is hands-on, demonstrates a high acumen for human resources, and loves collaborating across functions to support the growth and collective wellbeing of the organization. This is a new position due to growth of the company and will report to the Head of Finance.
Responsibilities include:
• Design and implement an HR strategy, department budget, policies, and procedures by working collaboratively with executive management to ensure alignment with corporate goals
• Provide HR advice and guidance on a range of HR matters including employee relations, compensation and recognition programs, compliance with laws and regulations, and performance management
• Keep current with trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, recruiting, and employment law
• Lead the annual performance review process by publishing a review schedule, coordinating completion and collection of review materials, and compiling data for executive management and compensation committee review
• Prepare and maintain company organizational and seating charts, phone directories, and other requested reports as needed
• Collaborate with hiring managers to understand the skills and competencies required for open positions, coordinate job postings and interview schedules directly and with outside recruiters, perform initial candidate interviews, and deliver employment offers after CEO signature
• Complete employee on-boarding procedures including background checks, employment eligibility verifications, workspace setup, and coordinating building access and computer hardware and software deployment
• Perform new hire orientation including a facilities tour, overview of the HR system, enrollment in benefits and setting up direct deposit, and coordinating process walkthroughs for laboratory & safety, IT, shipping & receiving, and procure-to-pay processes
• Manage payroll systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, leaves of absence, terminations, and other deductions or payroll changes
• Review payroll prepared by staff
• Administer and be a fiduciary for employee benefits programs such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental, vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 401(k), and wellness benefits
• Conduct an annual benefits orientation to explain program updates and educate employees on the self-enrollment process
• Verify the calculation of the monthly benefits premiums and resolve administrative problems with carrier representatives
• Respond to EEOC, ADA, EDD, State payroll tax agencies, workers’ compensation, and unemployment inquiries or claims
