Solutions associated with compressed air and gas, and we are looking for a Membrane R&D Engineer.
Position Description:
The Membrane R&D Engineer supports and further develops the product & production methods of the hollow fiber membrane dryer technology. This includes further developing the underlying chemistry as well as transferring this knowledge involving customized equipment, manufacturing process and product specifications. The Membrane R&D Engineer communicates the product and process designs through drawings, specifications, and other related documents. We are most interested in dynamic and driven individuals with a solid chemical engineering background and excellent interpersonal skills.
Area of Responsibility
- Lead projects and assist in the development and technology advancement of the hollow fiber membrane product to optimize performance and cost of the product.
- Ability to lead R&D projects to meet site and company goals. Strong technical orientation, able to use and build on their technical education, training, and experience to perform well in an R&D work environment.
- Provide designs which comply with basic Lean Engineering concepts of standardization and modularity.
- Provide documentation, including, but not limited to, Manufacturing Process Specifications, Bills of Materials, Design requirements, Manufacturing and Sales drawings as it relates to membrane technology.
- Review and generate responses to job specific requirements for review, including, but not limited to, technical responses, cost estimates, and design feedback.
- Process engineering changes or engineering work orders independently or through associated staff designers or other engineering personnel.
- Support Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Product Support as requested.
- Comply with and ensure department compliance with company health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Develop design drawings to fulfill technical objectives consistent with established guidelines, customer requirements and design specifications.
- Provides input to alternative product and system designs as required.
- Initiate Engineering Change Orders per Engineering Change Order procedures.
- Review design alternatives as applied to product systems, products or parts development and provide input to design changes which meet production capabilities at favorable costs.
- Communicate technical designs through drawings, specifications and other related documents to manufacturing, purchasing, vendors and customers for appropriate implementation.
- Participate in planning and scheduling of design and drafting projects relating to membrane technology.
- Keep informed of new or improved methods, materials and other advances in hollow fiber membrane technologies.
- Operate test systems and perform experiments within a lab setting, including physical and analytical testing, and guide laboratory testing through the development and execution of test plans and the analysis and interpretation of data
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff (e.g.,manager, engineers, business and product managers) as well as vendors, external partners and clients.
- Maintain excellent knowledge of chemical engineering principles and chemical processes related to Membrane Technology.
- Work with necessary departments to develop well defined safety procedures relating to any chemicals / materials used in the design and manufacture of membrane products.
- Provide leadership and direction to technicians/operators supporting his/her projects.
- Document and communicate results and progress to technical teams, management, and business leadership.
- Maintain a strong emphasis on safety. This includes responsibility for conducting thorough safety analysis of experimental programs.
- Work effectively with R&D researchers, staff, technicians, and management for competent performance of job functions.
Job requirements and necessary skills
Technical Competencies:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering.
- 3+ years of progressive experience involving Membrane technology or related area.
- Demonstrated experience with lab- and bench-scale test systems to develop products and processes in a lab and manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of membrane forming and membrane gas separation processes.
- Proficiency in 2-D & 3-D CAD; AutoCAD, Solidworks, preferred.
- Familiarity with New Product Development and Engineering Change Management processes.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP preferred.
- Working knowledge of sources for component parts pursued for product and product systems development.
- Function well in a fast-paced and team-oriented R&D environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to quality and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication, technical writing, and analytical skills
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple and/or changing priorities with minimal supervision.
- Highly self-motivated individual with demonstrated ability to drive for results.
- Proficient with Simulation tools and programs such as but not limited to FEA, CFD, Mathcad, Python, Visual Basic, etc. preferred.
