Communications Coordinator 

Position: Full-time, permanent

Location: REMOTE/Texas


Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV) works to foster and preserve a social and political climate in Texas favorable to full reproductive health care access including abortion, through electoral activity, legislative advocacy, and grassroots organizing, to promote and protect the mission of Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas. PPTV is expanding our communications team and is hiring a Communications Coordinator that will work for both PPTV and PPTV Political Action Committee (PAC).


General Description

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for working closely with Planned Parenthood affiliates and national Communications and Public Affairs staff to develop, manage and execute communications campaigns within the state of Texas. The Communications Coordinator will utilize traditional media relationships to enhance the visibility of Planned Parenthood in reproductive health politics and public policy, define the role of reproductive health care in electoral politics, promote positive movement for reproductive health politics and public policy through media narratives, and brand the organization as the statewide advocacy, public policy and electoral arm of the Planned Parenthood affiliates of Texas. 


This is a full-time exempt position based position.  


Essential Functions/Accountabilities

Press/Media 

  • Respond to media requests in a timely manner.

  • Draft and distribute media advisories, press releases, and statements and proactively pitch outlets around key issues.

  • Maintain and update media lists. 

  • Assist in the facilitation of press conferences and other earned media events and ensure staff, board members, stakeholders, and advocates are prepared for media appearances and public events.

Messaging/Copywriting/Content Creation 

  • Create concise copy that resonates with diverse audiences, using a honed racial and social justice lens to create inclusive, non-stigmatizing, and culturally relevant concepts.

  • Assist in the development of message frameworks based on messaging research designed for targeted audiences that communicate the vision of PPTV.

  • Write and edit internal and external communications including social media copy, talking points, scripts,and op-eds. 

  • Assist in the development of rapid response and crisis communications.

  • Provide support in developing digital content, particularly for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

Program Coordination

  • Assist with the management and maintenance of influencer and entertainment partner relationships. 

  • Conduct research and stay current on information regarding key celebrities, creative professionals, TV and film opportunities, cultural events, trends in culture activism, influential partnerships that other organizations have managed, etc, with a particular focus on reaching young audiences, communities of color, and LGBTQ+ audiences.

  • Coordinate storyteller program in collaboration with the PPTV Organizing and Training Team. 

  • Carry out other projects, as assigned.

Experience and Education

  • At least two (2) years of full-time media, writing and editing experience in a political or social issues setting.

  • Experience developing and maintaining credible and productive relationships with traditional news media, and in managing rapid/crisis response.

  • Skill in a variety of writing styles including Associated Press (AP) style, copy editing, proofreading methods and practices.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

  • Experience with graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills, detailed-oriented and self-motivated.

  • Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline driven team environment.

  • Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred.

  • Skill in producing clear and consistent high quality work with attention to detail.

  • Skill in proactively researching and quickly synthesizing information, and presenting it creatively in a variety of formats.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and complete assignments in an efficient manner, as well as adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships, and work collaboratively, with PPTV and affiliate staff, as well as external partners and consultants.

  • Ability to work after regular business hours, as needed.

SALARY + BENEFITS

This position is full-time with a salary of $50,000 annually. PPTV is proud to offer a competitive benefits package for full-time employees that includes 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage effective the first day of employment, life, AD&D, short-term disability, and long-term disability for the employee. We also offer optional flexible spending accounts and additional life coverage.
