ORGANIZATION: Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV) is the statewide advocacy and political arm of the Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas, referred to as “local Planned Parenthood organizations.” Planned Parenthood Texas Votes works to foster and preserve a social and political climate in Texas favorable to full reproductive health care access, through legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, and electoral activity, to promote and protect the mission of local Planned Parenthood organizations in Texas.


The work at PPTV is fast-paced and deals with complex and high-priority matters related to the public policies and politics of reproductive health in Texas. Our programs range from talking to voters about abortion access to advocating at the state legislature, organizing advocates to rally in support of reproductive rights, and training the next generation of movement leaders. 


PPTV’s theory of change focuses on engaging and empowering young women, women of color, and LGBTQ folks. These demographics represent the majority of Planned Parenthood patients, a significant proportion of Texas’ changing population, those particularly impacted by attacks on reproductive health and rights, and who are also the least engaged and represented in elections, government, and politics.


GENERAL DESCRIPTION


The CRGT Organizing Fellow serves as the lead organizer for the Travis County/Central Texas area, responsible for building, growing, and sustaining a strong base of supporters, volunteers, and community leaders across Planned Parenthood Texas Votes 501(c)(4), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Texas 501(c)(3), the PPTV Political Action Committee (PAC), and the PPTV Victory Fund (Super PAC). 

 

This role is responsible for identifying, recruiting, developing, activating, and retaining volunteers while building a sustainable leadership pipeline that strengthens Planned Parenthood's organizing, advocacy, and electoral work. Through relational organizing, leadership development, civic engagement, voter engagement, storytelling, public policy education, and volunteer training, the CRGT Organizing Fellow cultivates a diverse bench of community leaders prepared to mobilize their networks and advance Planned Parenthood's mission.

 

The CRGT Organizing Fellow works closely with community partners, coalition members, and volunteers to expand Planned Parenthood's presence and organizing capacity throughout the Travis County/Central Texas and support statewide efforts. This position requires demonstrated experience organizing within diverse communities, particularly communities of color, and a proven ability to build authentic relationships, develop volunteer leaders, and achieve ambitious organizing goals. 

 

The CRGT Organizing Fellow reports to the Organizing & Training Director and may supervise organizing interns, contractors, and volunteers as assigned.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The CRGT Organizing Fellow performs a wide range of duties, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Support in the achievement of robust recruitment goals by assisting in creating and growing our active supporter and volunteer base, and drive forward PPTV’s organizing priorities.

  • Build, and sustain a robust volunteer and supporter base across the Travis County/Central Texas area by identifying, recruiting, developing, activating, and retaining volunteers and emerging community leaders.

  • Develop and maintain a strong leadership pipeline by identifying volunteers with leadership potential and coaching them into increasing levels of responsibility, including volunteer leaders, trainers, and community organizers.

  • Conduct intentional one-on-one meetings, relational organizing conversations, and leadership development activities to deepen volunteer engagement and strengthen organizing capacity.

  • Achieve ambitious recruitment, activation, and volunteer leadership goals that advance Planned Parenthood Texas Votes' organizing, electoral, and advocacy priorities.

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and manage volunteers to support voter registration, voter contact, legislative advocacy, phone banking, canvassing, rallies, storytelling, and other organizing campaigns.

  • Plan and execute volunteer recruitment efforts through community outreach, coalition engagement, partner relationships, campus organizing, and special events.

  • Organize and recruit for statewide mobilizations, Days of Action, Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts, and other strategic organizing initiatives.

  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with volunteers through regular communication, leadership coaching, trainings, recognition, and ongoing engagement to increase retention and long-term participation.

  • Track volunteer engagement, leadership progression, and organizing metrics using VAN and other organizing tools to ensure data integrity and measure program success.

  • Follow statewide and affiliate policies and procedures related to volunteer management, list building, voter identification, voter engagement, and data quality.

  • Represent Planned Parenthood Texas Votes in community coalitions and partnerships focused on racial, gender, reproductive, and health equity.

  • Collaborate across departments to support integrated organizing, advocacy, communications, and electoral campaigns.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Deep commitment to the mission of Planned Parenthood and enthusiasm for public policy, political campaigns, and advocacy, with comfort, knowledge, and enthusiasm for engaging in conversations about sexual and reproductive health, politics, and public policy, including abortion.

  • At least one year of experience in community organizing, electoral campaigns, advocacy, or related field-based work, including demonstrated success recruiting, developing, and managing volunteers and community leaders.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify leadership potential, coach volunteers, and build sustainable volunteer leadership structures.

  • Experience meeting organizing metrics related to volunteer recruitment, activation, leadership development, and voter engagement.

  • Strong relationship-building, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse volunteers and community members.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with strong project management abilities and experience managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace tools, VAN, and other organizing technologies. VAN proficiency is required.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and departments.

  • Experience working within and organizing alongside historically underserved communities, including communities of color, is strongly preferred.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

This is a one-year (full-time) position. PPTV is proud to offer a competitive benefits package for full-time employees that includes 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage effective the first day of employment, life and AD&D, and short-term and long-term disability for the employee. We also offer optional flexible spending accounts and additional life coverage. Full-time employees receive paid time off accrued at a rate of 5.61 hours per day pay period for a total of 17 days per year for employees in their first year of service 27 paid holidays, inclusive of a winter break beginning in mid-December through early January (dates are determined each calendar year), 56 hours of non-accrued sick time, bereavement leave, jury duty pay, professional development opportunities, and the option to participate in a 401(k) retirement plan.
