Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Special Assets Manager to manage distressed or underperforming loans while supporting broader credit operations. This hybrid role involves evaluating borrower financials, identifying early signs of credit deterioration, and developing workout strategies that preserve value and support long-term client relationships.

You’ll collaborate with Account Managers, Underwriters, and Legal to assess risk, restructure loans, and ensure compliance with credit policy. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and a passion for solving complex financial challenges.

This position requires up to 50% travel, primarily to meet with borrowers, inspect collateral, and support field-level resolution efforts.


Key Responsibilities

  • Workout Strategy: Develop and implement restructuring plans for distressed loans, including payment plans, collateral adjustments, and covenant modifications.
  • Credit Analysis: Review financial statements, tax returns, and operational data to assess borrower viability.
  • Documentation: Prepare detailed credit memos, risk ratings, and workout proposals for internal review.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external advisors to manage special assets and ensure timely resolution.
  • Compliance: Ensure all workout activities adhere to regulatory and internal policy standards.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records and provide regular updates to senior management on portfolio health and recovery efforts.
  • Underwriting: Work closely with loan officers and underwriters to facilitate efficient loan approvals. Assist loan accounting with AP and AR processes for originated loans.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of credit analysis and lending principles
  • Experience with distressed asset management or loan workouts preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial analysis tools; Smartsheet experience a plus
  • Collaborative mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
