Position Title:  Yard Hostler

 

Department: Warehouse            

 

Classification: Full-time, Non-Exempt

 

Report To: Transloads Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION:               The Yard Hostler is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers within the yard and between loading docks. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of operations, supporting the shipping and receiving functions, and maintaining an organized yard.

• Safely move trailers between dock doors and yard locations as needed.
• Accurately spot trailers at dock doors to facilitate loading and unloading operations.
• Conduct pre-tip and post-trip inspections of yard trucks and trailers, reporting any issues or defects to the maintenance team.
• Maintain an orderly yard, ensuring that trailers are parked in designated areas and are easily accessible.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment for all team members.
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, yard inventory, and any other incidents or maintenance needs.
• Perform other tasks as assigned to support overall operations.

 

 

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience as a yard hostler or similar role preferred.
• Valid Class A CDL preferred; yard hostler certification a plus.
• Proficient in operating yard trucks and other material handling equipment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
