We are looking for an experienced, high-energy account director to join our team. The right candidate is a life-long learner with an extensive agency PR background working B2B tech clients, a strategic mindset, superb verbal skills, excellent writing abilities, business development expertise, established relationships with both media and industry analysts, and leadership chops. He or she will value the power of collaboration yet understand the importance of being a self-starter. Previous client experience in health tech, cleantech, security, cloud-based technologies, AI, or enterprise software is required.


As an account director at Sterling, you'll lead multiple client accounts, actively participate in new business development, and mentor a variety of up-and-coming PR professionals. You’ll also get mentoring/professional development from our executive team members to grow your professional skill set as well. This hands-on strategic role has responsibilities that include:


  • Account planning, budget management, and program measurement

  • Integrated program management (PR, marketing, web, content marketing, and video)

  • Effective mentoring and coaching of team members in a hybrid (yet significantly remote) setting

  • Active media and analyst relationship cultivation

  • Business development (with a focus on health tech and cleantech industries)

  • Writing and editing diverse PR and marketing content (e.g., contributed articles, website copy, proposals, and planning documents)

  • Involvement in agency marketing activities


While a passion for communications is a start, we're also looking for candidates with:


  • 6+ years of solid agency experience

  • A demonstrated track record of positive results for clients

  • New business wins

  • Previous experience as a reporter, editor or industry analyst

  • Superb communication skills with the ability to translate creative thought into original program elements

  • A bachelor's degree in journalism or liberal arts


Sterling is moving forward with a hybrid remote/in-person work environment. The ideal candidate for this position will reside in the greater Bay Area and will be able to work in person ~40% of the week or as needed for client and agency meetings. However, we are open to discussing a fully remote situation for the right candidate. The person who fills this role will have a proclivity for team building, professional development, and culture building in our new hybrid working reality.
