Front of House Training Instructor

(Part-Time Temporary Position)

THE OPPORTUNITY 

Hot Bread Kitchen is seeking an instructor to lead our Front of House Training (FOHT) program, which prepares members for customer-facing jobs in the food industry. This entails teaching our in-person training program utilizing Hot Bread Kitchen’s  curricula and assessing members’ performance throughout the program. This role also requires interviewing and assessing potential program participants.

 

The FOHT Instructor will teach our cohort in Hot Bread Kitchen’s Chelsea Market classroom. This role requires the ability to effectively engage with diverse groups of program stakeholders, including Hot Bread Kitchen  members and staff. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has a background in hospitality education and training, experience working in a frontline food industry hospitality role, and also has strong project management skills. 

 

Curriculum includes: Hospitality principles, customer service, professional readiness, food knowledge, upselling, and point of sales practice.

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Program Instruction:

    • Develop mastery of HBK FOHT curriculum in order to lead program instruction.

    • Provide in-person support during the FOHT Program, including in-class instruction and daily assessment of trainees.

    • Assist with interviews to assess program eligibility.

    • Assess performance through observation and interaction; provide regular feedback and guidance to program members. 

    • Provide educational and administrative support during training and events.

    • Communicate with Hot Bread Kitchen Program staff about member issues/concerns as well as member successes.

    • Oversee set-up and clean-up of the classroom space.

  • Program Management and Administration:

    • Track member attendance, performance, and other relevant metrics; maintain accurate records and manage reports using Salesforce and Google Sheets.

    • Administer surveys/assessment tools, collect and analyze responses.

 

Reporting Lines:  This position reports directly to the Upskilling and Job Quality Program Director

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and economic backgrounds.

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a foodservice hospitality role.

  • A minimum of 1 year teaching/training experience. 

  • Passion for Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission. 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and counsel people. 

  • Extremely organized and attentive to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and interpersonal skills.

  • General computer proficiency in Google platforms and productivity software.

Hours, Cohort Size, Location and Schedule

The FOHT Instructor position will be a part-time temporary role that requires in-person availability. This position will require up to 30 hours per week for one 5-week period in 2024. Details as follows:

  • Cohort Size: 20-30 ppl

  • Location: Chelsea Market, NYC

  • Hiring Period: September 3, 2024 to October 4, 2024 (5 Weeks)

  • Cohort Dates: September, 16, 2024 to October 4, 2024 (Monday to Friday; 3 Weeks)

  • Cohort Time: 9:00am-1:00pm

Estimated Cohort Hours: 120 total (60 Instructional Hours + 20 training hours + estimated 40 additional hours for program participation interviews, lesson preparation and administrative duties)

 

Position Start date: September 3, 2024

 

Location and hours 

This position requires regular in-person attendance at our Chelsea Market location in Manhattan starting on September 3, 2024. We follow New York City and State guidelines on COVID-19 vaccination and masking.

 

Compensation (teaching and prep time)

 

This is a 5-week position, including 1 week of new hire and curriculum training, 1 week of member interviewing and assessment, and 3 weeks of instruction . The compensation will be $50-55 per hour. This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits or holiday pay.
