Position: CAD Drafter

Job Summary:

The Engineering Division of Honeycomb Company of America, Inc., has an opening for a skilled aircraft structures CAD drafter.

Primary Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned:

·         Create 2D and 3D CAD models of aircraft metal bonded and composite structures.

·         Use Solidworks and/or CATIA to create CAD drawings and models of detail parts, assemblies, and tooling derived from customer provided MBD data sets, 2D drawings, specifications, loft data, and contract requirements.

·         Support Engineering personnel with creating manufacturing instructions, build plans, and tooling designs.

·         Support laser tracker operator by creating CAD surface files used for part and tool inspection.

·         Provide Purchasing department with CAD drawings and models needed for outsourced services.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education And/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED

·         Accredited AS degree or certificate in CAD modeling and drafting is a plus.

  • Previous aviation experience preferred

·         3+ years of experience with manufacturing of aerospace structures.

  • 2+ years working with an ERP system
  • Knowledge of AS9100D:ISO9001 2015 (preferred)
  • Knowledge of NADCAP (preferred)

·         Experience using SolidWorks CAD software.

·         Proficiency in creating CAD surface files.

·         Functional knowledge of GD&T.

·         Tooling design expertise is a plus.

·         Ability to interpret aerospace engineering manufacturing drawings and create a BOM.

·         Knowledge in manufacturing processes is a plus. (NC routing, hydroforming, sheet metal manufacturing, brake forming, welding, machining, heat treating, chemical processing, anodizing, chem-milling, stretch forming, adhesive bonding, honeycomb sandwich layup, autoclave cure, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and Kevlar.)

Computer Skills:

Proficient in Windows and MS Office; Word and Excel. Proficiency with Solidworks, vector and rastor image editing software, and CAM software.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs, use hands and fingers; and reach with hands and arms.

Ability to lift up to 15 pounds several times a day, and lift up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
