Washington Nonprofits is 10 years old. We have a small but mighty team serving over 30,000 nonprofits in Washington. We provide an extensive array of in-person and online learning opportunities for nonprofit professionals and volunteers. We are also a leading advocacy voice on behalf of nonprofits. We seek to connect nonprofits, foster collaboration and unified action both to create a better climate for nonprofits to operate and to improve how nonprofits serve our communities. This position is key to maintaining the momentum and reach that we have achieved.  Future goals include increasing relationships and relevance for communities of color, remaining nimble and delivering timely information and ideas, and staying accountable to our members and the greater nonprofit community.

Position Summary

This position is an integral member of the Washington Nonprofits leadership team. The Director of Community Engagement is charged with expanding the Washington Nonprofits network and membership base and building our statewide network of partners and regional staff.  The successful candidate will have a community organizing mindset and work to connect nonprofit and community leaders, as well as allied individuals, businesses and philanthropic organizations, with all aspects of our work.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Strategy development

  • Develop annual plans for network growth and membership development
  • Participate in shaping overall strategy, including maintaining relevance to a wide range of nonprofits across Washington state

 

Build a powerful statewide network

  • Hire and coordinate a multicultural team of regional representatives in communities across Washington
  • Manage partnerships with capacity builders, community foundations and other aligned organizations
  • Develop a strategy to improve service to and increase engagement of rural communities
  • Provide leadership for the Central Washington Conference for the Greater Good
  • Lead the effort to establish vibrant affinity groups to connect members with common interest and concerns, including establishing online groups and organizing convenings

 

Membership program

  • Provide oversight to Washington Nonprofits’ membership program

  • Develop overall strategy to recruit and retain members and meet membership goals
  • Ensure excellent customer service
  • Share responsibility for developing and implementing engagement strategies and networking opportunities for members
  • Ensure that data is managed effectively to maintain relationships and increase engagement
  • Coordinate our efforts to improve the use of Salesforce to track engagement and keep in touch with nonprofits and allies

 

Staff supervision

  • Supervise the Membership Manager and regional staff
  • Lead the team that works to ensure that we have quality data about nonprofits in Washington

 

Fundraising and financial management

  • Work with Operations Manager to manage finances and administration of community engagement programs
  • Write grant proposals and seek grant funding related to community engagement
  • Document and evaluate projects to demonstrate impact, improve practice and report to funders

 

Contribute to a strong organization

  • Participate in the organization’s leadership team 
  • Contribute to the visibility of the organization by representing Washington Nonprofits at events
  • Bring ideas from events, meetings, etc. back to the organization to contribute to our on-going effort to understand and support nonprofits in Washington

Desired Qualifications

  • Passion for and knowledge about the nonprofit sector (experience working in nonprofits preferred)
  • Community organizing experience
  • Familiarity with Washington state communities, especially communities of color and/or rural communities
  • Experience designing and managing programs
  • Experience leading teams and managing people
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills
  • Comfort using technology and designing systems, including cloud-based apps and software
  • Fund development and/or membership development experience
  • Ability to speak Spanish highly desired

  • Outstanding verbal/written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) is required.  Experience with membership databases, MailChimp, and Salesforce preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and priorities effectively and professionally
  • Ability to travel within state and valid driver’s license
  • Some moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be required on an occasional basis

 

Additional Information

Location:                           Seattle Office or work from home from another Washington State location

                                                Some travel required, primarily within Washington State

FLSA Classification:          Full-time, Exempt

Compensation:                 $65,000-80,000 annual salary, dependent on experience

      plus benefits including paid time off and health insurance.
