Washington Nonprofits is 10 years old, and learning has grown to be a very visible aspect of the organization and the largest revenue stream of funding from contracts, grants, and fees for services. There is local, regional and national recognition of Washington Nonprofits’ learning offerings, which include excellent curriculum, in-person workshops, webinars and just-in-time online learning via the Washington Nonprofit Institute website.  This position is key to maintaining the momentum and reach that we have achieved.  Future goals include increasing relationships and relevance for communities of color, remaining nimble and delivering timely information and ideas, and staying accountable to our members and the greater nonprofit community.

Position Summary

This position is an integral member of the Washington Nonprofits leadership team. The Program Director leads our learning and membership programs, ensuring that Washington Nonprofits delivers high-quality programs that are relevant and accessible to nonprofits across Washington. The department consists of the Program Director supervising a Director of eLearning, a Membership Manager and an administrative professional.  Washington Nonprofits prides itself on delivering creative, engaging programs that are timely and responsive to the needs of the nonprofit sector.

 

The learning team is hands-on.  The person in this position will spend approximately one-third of their time preparing and presenting learning workshops. Another third of their time is devoted to creating and maintaining strategic programs and partnerships, including fundraising. The remaining third is reporting, leading and participating in team meetings, and coaching and mentoring staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Strategy development

  • Develop learning strategy for Washington Nonprofits
  • Develop annual plans for a mix of learning events that meets the needs of nonprofits as well as funder requirements

 

Innovation and curriculum development

·         In collaboration with content and training experts, develop new curriculum and toolkits

·         Create new offerings to enhance learning, e.g. videos, micro-learning, boosting content, etc.

·         Support development of new learning programs, including affinity groups, an executive program, advanced learning opportunities and convenings.

 

Implementation of learning programs

·         Develop systems to support the delivery of learning workshops and webinars.

·         Identify and support a cadre of trainers to deliver learning offerings, including keeping presenters updated on current information and trends in adult education to maintain quality.

·         Lead the team on all aspects of planning and implementation for two annual conferences

·         Create and implement an evaluation system for all learning programs.

·         Provide oversight for the Washington Nonprofit Institute website.

 

Membership program

·         Provide oversight to Washington Nonprofits’ membership program

  • Develop overall strategy to recruit and retain members and meet membership goals.
  • Ensure excellent customer service.
  • Ensure that data is managed effectively to maintain relationships and increase engagement
  • Share responsibility for developing and implementing engagement strategies and networking opportunities for members.

 

Staff supervision

·         Lead the learning team

·         Hire and supervise learning staff members

 

Fundraising and financial management

  • Work with Operations Manager to manage finances and administration of learning programs.
  • Write grant and contract proposals related to learning.
  • Ensure data collection to meet reporting requirements.
  • Initiate and steward relevant partnerships and sponsorships.

 

Contribute to a strong organization

  • Participate in the organization’s leadership team.
  • Contribute to the visibility of the organization by representing WN at events.
  • Bring ideas from events, meetings, etc. back to the organization to contribute to our on-going effort to understand and support nonprofits in Washington.

·         Strong networking and relationship management skills

·         Comfort using technology and designing systems, including cloud-based apps and software. 

·         Experience raising funds, writing grants and managing contracts

·         Experience working in nonprofit sector preferred

·         Familiarity with Washington state communities, especially communities of color and/or rural communities

·         Valid driver’s license and access to a car or ability to rent a car as needed for travel

 

General Skills and Requirements for all Washington Nonprofit Staff

·         Outstanding verbal/written communication skills.

·         Proficiency in Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) is required.  Experience with membership databases, MailChimp, and Salesforce preferred.

·         Ability to handle multiple tasks, projects, and priorities effectively and professionally.

·         Ability to travel within state.

·         Some moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be required on an occasional basis.

 

Additional Information

Location:                           Seattle Office or work from home from another Washington State location

                                                Some travel required, primarily within Washington State

FLSA Classification:          Full-time, Exempt

Compensation:                 $65,000-80,000 annual salary, dependent on experience,

     plus benefits including paid time off and health insurance. 

Position Reports to:          Executive Director
