We are looking for a Technical Rigger to join the Mindshow team while we develop a Maya-based animation production pipeline for episodic animated series. You should have a thorough knowledge of animation, rigging, and deformation tools currently used in the VFX and animation industries, as well as related cross-pipeline and real-time workflows. The character rigger should be experienced and passionate about building stylized animated characters/creatures/prop rigs and developing tools to help artists and creators visualize their stories.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the rigging lead to determine workflows, tool requirements, and asset needs
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to find the most appropriate solution to produce desired CG character performances
  • Create templated rigs for application via tooling and refine them based on the needs of animators and downstream departments
  • Create scripts from templates for automated rigs
  • Implement and refine asset-specific rigs based on their build needs whether an organic deformation rig or/ and hard-surface rigs
  • Work closely with modelers and animators to ensure an asset is efficiently rigged and capable of full range motion with fine levels of control and high usability
  • Help create efficient portable pipelines for facial rigging, rigging characters, creatures, assets, cloth, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Practical rigging knowledge ranging from simple props to complicated creatures
  • Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to rigging
  • Deep knowledge in anatomy and muscle dynamics
  • Good eye for aesthetics of body/face deformations and stylized animation
  • Familiarity with Mocap
  • Proficient Python development skills and debugging techniques
  • Excellent working knowledge of Maya
  • Experience with Qt, PyQt, PySide

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in cloth/hair/flesh/rigid body simulations for CFX setups, simulation shot running/troubleshooting cloth, hair/fur/feathers and muscle deformations
  • In depth Maya Knowledge. VEX; MotionBuilder; Unity/Unreal familiarity, Zubio knowledge
  • Mel or Python programming experience a must (Python preferred)
  • Linux or Windows OS knowledge
