Family Reach is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to removing the financial barriers standing between a cancer patient and their treatment. We deliver financial education, resource navigation, and emergency relief funds to patients and caregivers facing a cancer diagnosis, so no family has to choose between their health and their home. Our organization believes in the values of compassion, courage, innovation, scrappiness, and collaboration as core components of our community and the services we provide.


POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Vice President of Programs and Health Equity will lead overall strategic growth, innovation and implementation to scale our programming and ensure Family Reach deepens and broadens its impact on families facing cancer. This position has significant purview within Family Reach, overseeing four directors and a growing staff of 20. The VP will leverage deep knowledge of program design, delivery, collaboration and evaluation to develop and lead achievement of the organization’s new Intended Impact and Theory of Change. The VP will lead a team to grow and sustain key programs, ensuring equitable access to our services with a particular focus on engaging low-income Black and Hispanic patients, who are most adversely impacted by the financial crisis of cancer.

The VP will oversee programs leadership and management and work closely across Senior Leadership to insert a Programs voice into data management, program evaluation and innovation, business development. This position oversees a team responsible for managing both internal and external relationships, including cancer care providers and nonprofit partners.

The ideal candidate will have a balanced skill set including a keen understanding of the oncology landscape, health inequities, experience building national interventions that scale, and knowledge on how patient data can be used to drive awareness of the financial burden of cancer.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programs Strategy and Execution

• Lead program planning, focused on efficiencies and scale while working intimately with cross-functional extended leadership on execution to achieve our intended impact

• Develop a capacity planning approach to new program and proposal development

• Work closely with the development team to engage Programs in our fundraising strategy

• Work closely with the Finance Department to budget and monitor programmatic operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management.

• Identify and leverage opportunities for growth and expansion of Family Reach’s impact through our internal and external relationships

• Oversee four departments within programs: program delivery, program development, community relations, and impact, to effectively execute our Intended Impact and Theory of Change

• From a strengths-based approach, lead the team of program directors to effectively oversee the coordination, integration, delivery and evaluation of all programs, contracts and related services.

• Work with the Director of Impact to offer critical insight and identify gaps in external literature on financial toxicity to inform our survey and research efforts

• Work with the Director of Program Delivery to ensure efficient and impactful delivery of resource navigation and financial assistance

• Work with the Director of Program Development and Innovation to create a clear roadmap for expanding and evolving our programs

• Work with the Community Relations Director to advance our collaboration priorities, with a specific focus on cancer equity and reaching Black and Hispanic patients and caregivers

• Lead Programs Team to uphold a culture of innovation, teamwork, and support.


Executive Leadership

• Play a key role in the overall development, strategic planning, service delivery, and management of the organization across multiple departments.

• Define staffing plans to achieve program goals and objectives and lead hiring decisions for new program staff.

• Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility.

• Work with Programs staff to develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and report on KPIs to BOD and team on a quarterly basis


QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 10 years progressive program healthcare experience or national nonprofit with patient-facing programs with half of that time performing direct clinical care too patients

• At least 3 years’ experience within or partnering with multi-hospital health systems, preferably cancer centers

• Thorough understanding of trauma informed care and its importance when delivering services to families.

• Supervises and supports staff with a strength based and trauma informed framework

• Demonstrated skills working cross-organizationally and directly leading initiatives as well as influencing other leaders. Proven ability working with diverse groups of stakeholders in and around the process of leading change.

• Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to find common ground, build consensus, and strengthen collaboration among diverse constituencies.

• Existing networks or ability to quickly build networks in the cancer arena.

• Experience using quantitative and qualitative data, feedback, and sector trends to make and implement strategic decisions and report on progress.

• Comfort serving as a representative of a program in a tag team with development and the CEO to engage donors and partners through effective in-person and written communication.

• Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multi-tiered structure to include professional development and mentorship.

• Comprehensive working knowledge of program planning, organizational structure, program evaluation, budgeting, and administrative operations.

• Leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting, overseeing multiple programs or contracts, preferably at an organization serving under-resourced communities.

• Ability to successfully navigate in an outcomes-driven and entrepreneurial environment.
