Family Reach is looking for a Director of Marketing & Communications who will strategically plan, produce and execute a wide range of marketing and communications efforts in support of Family Reach’s mission and fundraising efforts.

A growing national organization, this role requires a stellar strategic thinker capable of multitasking and working well with a small and mighty team. This role is responsible for maintaining and growing Family Reach’s brand identity, owned and shared properties, driving attendance for fundraising events and campaigns, and working with the development and programs teams to manage and execute against broader organizational plans. We’re looking for a strategist and a practitioner, someone who can execute and drive results.

This role will report to the Vice President of Development and Communications, will oversee four direct reports including a Graphic Designer/Web Manager, Communications Manager, Social Content Coordinator, and a Marketing Coordinator.

Responsibilities
Strategic Planning
  • Serves as strategic lead stewarding Family Reach’s brand identity through the development and maintenance of Family Reach’s marketing materials and the oversight of social and owned platforms with a commitment to improving the user experience;
  • Identifies opportunities for co-branding and campaign cross-promotion with external partners on programs, events and initiatives; 
  • Drives cross-functional efforts between departments to ensure alignment and consistency on key initiatives, developing marketing plans and materials to support the same;
  • As needed, attends industry conferences to identify trends and engage external stakeholders 
  • Partners with the Communications Manager on the development and execution of communications plan, general messaging, etc.
  • Supports CEO on strategic priorities as needed

Digital Marketing
  • Create a robust email marketing and automation program, including planning segmented workflows, tracking and maximizing conversion and optimization of users
  • Manage and broaden Family Reach’s organic and paid social media campaigns, including SEO/SEM, from planning and content creation through ongoing optimization and reporting with the support of a Social Content Coordinator; 
  • Strategic oversight for community engagement and management of Family Reach’s platforms;
  • Create, maintain and refresh Google Analytics and Adwords campaigns and explore remarketing/retargeting strategies (e.g. Facebook Pixel)
  • Develop a strategic editorial calendar across all Family Reach channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, website and Instagram with support from the Social Content Coordinator; Develop YouTube channel and strategy for integration in current owned platforms and campaigns
  • Onboard and maintain proficiency in inbound marketing software, performing A/B testing, evaluate results, and coach/train staff on best practices;
  • Lead efforts and schedule development for planned and real-time content efforts; and,
  • Ongoing analysis and optimization of digital efforts, paid and organic social media, website traffic and conversion to donors, source analysis, etc.

Communications
  • Manage partnership with external pro-bono PR partners and make suggestions for use of communications budget to support PR and media relations
  • Manage media monitoring and build media lists pertaining to Family Reach and its affiliates
  • Develop and maintain speaker’s bureau, identifying and securing speaking opportunities for leadership and Family Reach affiliates
  • Identify media partnership opportunities 
  • Coordinate the writing and development of all Family Reach PR materials, including press releases and media kits
  • Create partner marketing calendar to keep relationship owners update on marketing activities of all partners 
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date representation of partnerships in all organization-wide communications efforts 

Management
  • Manages a marketing team inclusive of a Graphic Design/Web Manager, Communications Manager, Social Content Coordinator, and Marketing Coordinator.  

Requirements
  • 5-7 years of marketing, communications, digital marketing and social media strategy experience, including experience with social media and digital advertising; media buying a plus 
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Superior writing, oral communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Experience with inbound marketing tools, digital and social media publishing tools and analytics
  • Strong critical thinking skills; you are a problem-solver
  • Analytically-oriented; comfortable with numbers and using data to inform decision-making
  • Impeccable project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and see them from conception to completion, on time and on budget
  • Self-starter and strategic thinker who can work independently with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of design principles; experience with Photoshop/Illustrator/HTML a plus
  • The ability to represent Family Reach externally with key stakeholders
  • Familiarity with and interest in the cancer-support scene and a passion for the Family Reach mission
