We utilize the McCarton Integrated Model, which combines speech and language therapy, fine and gross motor therapy, sensory integration therapy, socialization with peers, developmental play skills and applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.


Now the McCarton Foundation is launching our new early intervention program, providing services for infants and toddlers diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. We're offering home-based services throughout New York City and center-based services at our brand new center in the Bronx.


Job Description


Working in a dynamic team of EI professionals, the Teacher Assistant provides support to the Head Teacher in leading a team of Classroom Assistants to implement ABA Therapy.  The TA ensures that the classroom is operating efficiently and assisting in the training of Classroom Assistants with ABA programs. 

In these classrooms, we serve infants and toddlers age 2-3 that have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who receive 1:1 highly individualized ABA instruction with goals that are child-specific based on thorough assessment, ongoing data collection, and data-driven decision making. Teaching methods used in this classroom include applied verbal behavior, discrete trial instruction, and a multidisciplinary team consisting of speech therapists, occupational therapist, and a licensed psychologist providing additional therapeutic support.


Responsibilities and Duties:


Working under the direction of a Special Education Teacher to facilitate classroom activities and assist in supervision of ABA therapy and Social Group programs. 


  • Work under the direction of a Special EducationTeacher in  supervising a team of classroom assistants to apply ABA therapy to children ages 2 - 3 years old. 

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of group and individual activities during each session

  • Follow ABA educational programs as designed by lead teacher

  • Follow assigned schedule which may include working as 1:1 for specific child or assisting the group as a whole

  • Ensure staff are collecting data daily using the ACE system

  • Participate in regularly scheduled training

  • Assist in the set up / clean up for each group session, ensure supplies are well stocked for classroom and respective lavatory

  • Interact and may be asked to communicate with family / caregivers and outside providers

  • Assist in administrative tasks


Requirements:

Qualifications,Skills, and/or Experience of Candidates for the Classroom:


Desired Skills

  • Previous experience with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and applying ABA Therapy

  • Previous supervisory role or leadership experience

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to learn and work with computer systems

  • Completion or enrollment in Educational program related to Special Needs & Education. 

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work with young children


Highly Desired Qualifications:


  • Possess a New York State Teaching Certificate or be enrolled in a study plan approved by the Department of Health, leading to certification

OR

  • A baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or a related field of study and two years of supervised and documented relevant experience in a pre-school program. 


Schedule

This a full-time, full-day, 12-month position from 7:30 am - 5:15 pm
