Over the past two decades McCarton has transformed the lives of thousands of children from around the globe through the McCarton Center for Developmental Pediatrics, the McCarton School for children with autism, and the Children’s Academy for children with speech and language learning delays. We utilize the McCarton Integrated Model, which combines speech and language therapy, fine and gross motor therapy, sensory integration therapy, socialization with peers, developmental play skills and applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.
Now the McCarton Foundation is launching our new early intervention program, providing services for infants and toddlers diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. We're offering home-based services throughout New York City and center-based services at our brand new center in the Bronx.
Job Description
Working with a dynamic team of EI professionals, the Education Assistant provides support to the Head Teacher in administrative duties to support the management of a classroom. Each classroom provides ABA therapy to children ages 2-3 predominantly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and the leadership in each classroom consists of a Head Teacher, Teacher Assistant, Educational Assistant and 1:1 Classroom Assistants that provide support for each child. The EA ensures that classroom administration including attendance and documentation is in order every day and executes tasks such as copying, filing and preparing documents.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Working under the direction of a Special Education Teacher to ensure efficient classroom documentation and creation of educational materials.
Work under the direction of a Special Education Teacher in preparing documents to support the educational programs of children ages 2 - 3 years old such as copies, written guides and laminating pictures.
Use a software to track child attendance and assign classroom assistants to each child at the beginning of each of the 4 daily sessions.
Document childrens’ progress in programs including ACE and digital systems
Assist in the set up / clean up for each group session, ensure supplies are well stocked for classroom and respective lavatory
Participate in regularly scheduled training
Requirements:
Qualifications,Skills, and/or Experience of Candidates for the Classroom:
Desired Skills
Computer skills including working with Microsoft Suite and ability to type at least 45 WPM
Previous experience with children or educational program or in a related area such as childhood education, social work or psychology.
Strong communication and writing skills
Ability to learn and work with computer systems
Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus
Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work with young children
Observant and able to work independently
Must have a High School Diploma or GED
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Research Experience
Graduate of or in a baccalaureate degree program in early childhood education or a related field of study,
Schedule
This a full-time, full-day, 12-month position from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
