About us

The McCarton Foundation is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring exceptional treatment and services to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. We believe in the ability that exists within every child who has developmental disabilities, and that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Our new Bronx Center is an Early Intervention agency providing center-based and home-based services to families at no cost.

 

Position Available: Applied Behavioral Analysis Intern

Interns at the McCarton Foundation will have the opportunity to work directly with children ages 18 months to three years old on the autism spectrum as part of our Early Intervention program. Our program offers valuable and educational experience for interns, providing the opportunity to facilitate fun and meaningful programs for children with autism. In addition the intern will learn from certified professionals on the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis and observe Speech and Occupational Therapy.

 

Description & Responsibilities:

  • Work one-on-one with children under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher and Teacher Assistant.

  • Duties include working on social, emotional and academic development of children, and assisting children with personal care

  • Interns must maintain confidentiality of the individuals served at all times


Schedule:

  • Full time/part time internships available

  • Positions are Monday through Friday and follow one of the full-time/part-time schedules:

    • Full Day - 7:45 AM – 5:15 PM (with lunch break)

    • Part 1 - 7:45 AM – 12:15 PM

    • Part 2 - 12:45 PM – 5:15 PM

  • The internship will begin in June and end in August (with flexibility for start and end dates);

  • Summer, Fall, and Spring sessions are offered.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be a caring, compassionate person who shares in our mission and is eager to work with 2 - 3 year-old children with autism and other developmental disabilities in a small (i.e., 6-12 students) classroom environment.

  • Must be cooperative, reliable and dependable.

  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) a plus

  • Individuals with autism and/or learning disabilities encouraged to apply

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

  • Fingerprinting, initial medical exam and New York State criminal background check is mandatory


The Application Process: All Special Education ABA intern applicants should submit a cover letter and a resume. The cover letter should clearly state the position the applicant is applying for, the semester of interest, approximate date on which she/he would be available to begin work if selected, and why would he/she be a good fit for the position desired.


Application Dates: Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible in advance of the deadline. Invitations for interviews are sent on a rolling basis.


Summer Session (end-May through end-August): Please submit your application by March 25.

Fall Semester (beginning of September through mid-December): Please submit by June 30.

Spring Semester (end-January through end-May): Please submit by October 15.
