Special Education Teacher for Early Intervention Center

DESCRIPTION

Job Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Location: McCarton Center Bronx

The McCarton Foundation is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring exceptional treatment and services to children with autism and other developmental disabilities. We believe in the ability that exists within every child who has developmental disabilities, and that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Over the past two decades McCarton has transformed the lives of thousands of children.  We utilize the McCarton Integrated Model, which combines speech and language therapy, fine and gross motor therapy, sensory integration therapy, socialization with peers, developmental play skills and applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.

Now the McCarton Foundation is launching our new early intervention program, providing services for infants and toddlers diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. We're offering home-based services throughout New York City and center-based services at our brand new center in the Bronx.

Job Description
The McCarton Center Bronx is looking for certified Special Education Teachers (NYS Students with Disabilities Birth-2nd) to teach in our ABA Classroom. In these classrooms, we serve infants and toddlers ages 18 months to 3 years old that have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as well as other global delays.

Children in our autism program will receive 1:1 highly individualized ABA instruction with goals that are child-specific based on thorough assessment, ongoing data collection, and data-driven decision making. Teaching methods used in this classroom include applied verbal behavior, discrete trial instruction, and a multidisciplinary team consisting of speech therapists, and occupational therapists.

Another component of our program is our Social Group with typically-developing peers, which aims to improve the social and symbolic play skills of children with autism. In addition to addressing skill deficits, this group also emphasizes developing the intrinsic desire to play. A portion of this social group will take place in an integrated daycare setting where children have an opportunity to play with their typically developing peers and be integrated into a slightly larger setting.
