Wingra School is an independent school for ages five to fourteen centrally-located in Madison, Wisconsin, or Dejope, within the ancestral and contemporary sacred homeland of the Ho-Chunk People. 

 

The Position:

We seek a Director for our After School Program who is guided by principles of equity, inclusion, democratic processes, and anti-racist practices. The candidate is an excellent communicator who can work with children ages five to fourteen and as part of a team, is resourceful, responsive, and organized.

The After School Program Director at Wingra School oversees and manages all aspects of the after-school program. This includes developing and implementing engaging and enriching activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of students, managing staff, and communicating effectively with parents and school administration.

 

 

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Program Development:

    • Design and develop various after-school activities and programs that align with the school's progressive values and educational philosophy.

    • Create a curriculum that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and social-emotional development.

    • As appropriate, incorporate elements of project-based learning, arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, and academic support.

  • Student Engagement and Safety:

    • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students participating in the after-school program.

    • Implement and enforce behavioral expectations and disciplinary procedures as needed.

    • Foster positive relationships among students and encourage collaboration and respect.

  • Communication and Collaboration:

    • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding program activities, student progress, and any concerns or issues.

    • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to coordinate schedules, resources, and support services.

    • Attend school events, parent-teacher conferences, and other meetings as required.

  • Administrative Tasks:

    • Manage program budgets, including expenses for supplies, equipment, and staff salaries.

    • Keep accurate records of student attendance, program evaluations, and incident reports.

    • Prepare reports and presentations for school leadership, board members, and other stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Previous experience working in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of progressive educational practices and child-centered learning approaches.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
