Role Description 

The Sr. Systems Administrator is responsible for the secure, reliable operation of the firm’s endpoint, cloud, identity, and network environments. This role ensures systems supporting sensitive financial and client tax data meet security, compliance, and availability requirements while enabling a productive end‑user experience. The Sr. Systems Administrator partners across the organization, serves as a technical escalation point, and continuously improves system resilience and security posture.

 

Responsibilities

  • Deploys, manages, and monitors endpoint security solutions, including EDR, antivirus, and mobile device protections across all company‑managed devices.
  • Performs regular vulnerability assessments, coordinates OS and third‑party software patching, and remediates identified security risks.
  • Ensures systems and configurations comply with applicable industry standards and frameworks (e.g., NIST, SOC 2) related to the handling of sensitive financial and client tax data.
  • Administers identity and access management within Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), including user lifecycle management, groups, service principals, enterprise applications, and privileged access.
  • Implements and maintains identity security controls such as Multi‑Factor Authentication (MFA), Conditional Access policies, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM).
  • Administers Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams, ensuring reliable collaboration and communication services.
  • Manages mail flow rules, threat protection (Microsoft Defender for Office 365), and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies.
  • Monitors Azure resources and enforces governance standards to reduce configuration drift, support cost optimization, and maintain operational consistency.
  • Configures, maintains, and secures network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and VPN connectivity for remote offices and hybrid users.
  • Monitors network performance and availability, performs root‑cause analysis, and resolves issues to support high uptime and reliability.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates standardized workstation images and supports modern, zero‑touch device provisioning through Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
  • Manages the full lifecycle of end‑user hardware, including procurement, asset tracking, refresh planning, and secure decommissioning.
  • Ensures consistent software configurations across all endpoints, including required business applications and tax‑related tools.
  • Designs, implements, and periodically tests backup and disaster recovery procedures for critical systems and business data.
  • Serves as the escalation point for complex technical issues beyond help desk scope, providing root‑cause resolution and guidance.
  • Acts as the primary technical contact for ISPs, hardware vendors, and third‑party software providers.
  • Proactively identifies and implements improvements to system reliability, security posture, and operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • 5+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or IT operations.
  • Strong experience administering Windows environments, Microsoft 365, and Azure AD (Entra ID).
  • Hands‑on experience with endpoint security, vulnerability management, and patching practices.
  • Working knowledge of network infrastructure, firewalls, VPN technologies, and cloud governance.
  • Experience supporting environments that process sensitive or regulated data.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues independently.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder‑management skills.

 

Preferred 

  • Experience supporting SOC 2, NIST, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Defender, Intune, and Windows Autopilot.
  • Experience in professional services, financial services, or tax‑related environments.
  • Relevant technical certifications (Microsoft, Azure, Security+, Cisco, or similar).
