Role Description

The Business Operations Manager is a cross-functional role focused on building, refining, and sustaining core operational processes across TAG. In the first year, the role will primarily support Document Management by improving workflow clarity, strengthening cross-functional handoffs, and ensuring consistent service execution. This is critical to the business given tax processes are so reliant on incoming and outgoing mail procedures and carry significant risk with any mishandled mail.

As the position develops broad operational expertise across TAG’s functional areas, the role will expand and lead process optimization and documentation efforts for critical cross-functional processes. This role will also partner closely with the TAG Product Manager, combining process expertise with business needs to refine requirements for internal systems and reporting. Given the strategic nature of this role, it will report directly to the CEO.

The ideal candidate has been a significant contributor to or has led cross-functional process optimization projects in multiple organizations. The candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, adept at creating structure, and brings curiosity, problem solving, and systems fluency to high-volume, detail-oriented work.  They are skilled at documenting processes, identifying friction points (e.g., scalability limits or business risks), and implementing practical improvements aligned with firmwide standards.

Responsibilities

  • Build in-depth cross-functional knowledge of the key business processes and intersections, and critical “get rights” for high-quality delivery of services to clients, and minimizing firm’s business risks
  • Identify opportunities, inefficiencies, and risk areas across workflows and propose people, process, and/or technology improvements in partnership with leadership.
  • Optimize and document end-to-end critical processes using a standard application, including incoming mail workflows (opening, logging, scanning, routing, archiving, cross-functional handoffs, and service-level expectations) and outgoing rendition processing (standard and special handling).
  • Partner with IT, Property Tax Consulting, and Client Success to enhance systems, integrations, and automation, troubleshoot system/process issues and coordinate resolution with internal and external (e.g., Quadient) partners.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to promote consistency and knowledge sharing
  • Track and report workload metrics (volume, turnaround time, error rate) to improve visibility and accountability
  • Lead or assist with training, onboarding, and cross-training team members to ensure coverage and duplicity
  • Collaborate closely with leadership on special projects

Qualifications

Required

  • 7–10 years of process optimization work with experience in operational areas like document administration, client service delivery, project management, risk management, and/or technology business analyst/product manager roles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Excel; experience with business process mapping software (e.g, Visio, Lucidchart)
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations, leveraging various frameworks to create structure
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and drive results through influence.
  • Organized, dependable, and detail-driven; ability to work well under time constraints.
  • Demonstrated success in optimizing operational processes and/or implementing workflow enhancements.

Preferred

  • Experience in property tax, legal, or financial services environments.
  • Former experience as a Management Consultant in performance optimization roles.
  • Familiarity with common operational workflow applications (e.g., Salesforce, NetSuite) and other workflow automation tools, OCR scanning, and/or client portal technologies.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence decisions, process adoption.
  • Interest in understanding the “why” behind workflows and strengthening operational alignment across TAG, while also optimizing outcomes and reducing overall business risk.
