Job Summary

We are looking for a passionate Sr. Software Engineer to architect, develop and release features on our new social and emotional learning (SEL) assessment delivery and results platform. This member will be a part of a small but nimble development team with extensive engineering experience at top tier technology companies.

Ultimately, the role of the Sr. Software Engineer is to build high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software that complies with coding standards and technical design. This role will be mentored by and report directly to our VP of Engineering.

Responsibilities 

  • Design and release robust, well-factored APIs capable of scale and extensibility
  • Design and implement effective testing (unit/e2e)
  • Refactor and optimize existing code to improve performance and maintainability
  • Provide input to the product team regarding the effort, implications and needs of development work
  • Develop prototypes to determine viability, performance characteristics, operational feasibility, and build-vs-buy analysis of technical solutions
  • Develop performance testing suites to ensure continued reliable performance
  • Perform code reviews and provide feedback to other developers, to provide mentorship and ensure consistent code quality and system design
  • Create documentation and diagrams of new and existing systems as needed to ensure long-term maintainability
  • Develop database schemas that integrate cohesively and reflect the performance and scale needs of the system
  • Analyze database performance and propose improvements and solutions
  • Perform database maintenance and tuning
  • Perform database query optimization
  • Identify and implement solutions for security concerns and best practices
  • Lead discussions/whiteboarding for technical solutions
  • Participate in various product team meetings to facilitate the rapid, consistent development and release of features
  • Implement monitoring and logging solutions
  • Mentor other developers

Desired Technologies Experience

  • SQL/PostgreSQL (3+ years)
  • Experience with modern cloud-based architectures (3+ years)
  • JavaScript/Node.js (5+ years)

Education & Experience 

  • No education requirement
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience developing software products
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies


Work Environment 
  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. 

  • This job requires occasional travel to our home office (0-5%) for team bonding event
