American Society of Adaptation Professionals (ASAP) connects and supports climate change adaptation professionals to advance innovation and excellence in the field. We believe that climate change is a real and serious danger to all sectors and systems; that adaptation and resilience build stronger, more prepared communities, ecosystems, and economies; and that equity and environmental justice should be centered in all work that adaptation professionals do. We are seeking a Part-Time (20-30 hours/week) Communications Manager to provide high-quality processes, campaigns, content, and services for all of ASAP’s communication channels: direct email, website, social media, and marketing materials. The Communications Manager will be an integral member of the ASAP Staff Team with a critical role in sharing program opportunities and accomplishments, lifting up member stories, building the ASAP brand, and strengthening the adaptation field by providing compelling, consistent, timely communications to current and prospective ASAP members, partners, funders, and the media. 

This is a permanent, part-time position with compensation between $25 - $28 per hour. This position includes paid vacation, holiday, and sick leave. This position does not include health or retirement benefits. Location is U.S. based, but otherwise flexible. This position reports to the ASAP Deputy Director.


Responsibilities 

  • Plan and manage content across all of ASAP’s communication channels: direct mail, social media, website, and marketing materials. 

    • Direct Email: Ensure timely production of ASAP’s direct email campaigns via MailChimp, including standing member-facing publications, a monthly newsletter, and event/program promotions. 

    • Social Media: Manage ASAP’s social media presence - centered on LinkedIn - to amplify ASAP and partner content and engage current and prospective ASAP members.

    • Website: Maintain and improve the ASAP website as a space where current and prospective ASAP members, partners, funders, and other stakeholders can easily access compelling messages about ASAP, timely information for engaging in ASAP, and useful climate adaptation resources.

    • Marketing Materials: Plan for updates to existing marketing materials. Direct the design of new materials. Develop and manage processes for preparing print and digital versions of marketing materials in coordination with program and event staff. 

  • Direct and supervise a team of temporary staff to curate, synthesize, proofread, and design written content, pictures and graphics, and videos across all communication channels.

  • Collaborate with the ASAP Staff Team to create and execute communications plans for ASAP programs and organizational advancement efforts.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of ASAP’s communications, such as by synthesizing and acting on member feedback and tracking and reporting communication engagement statistics. 

  • As requested, represent ASAP at external events, in the media, and on committees/working groups/etc across the adaptation field (including very occasional travel within the U.S. and Canada, depending on pandemic conditions.)


Additionally, all ASAP staff support organizational management and advancement by:

  • Contributing ideas for member engagement and value creation

  • Providing timely response to (or timely fielding of) member requests

  • Participating in workplace development, teambuilding, and strategy-setting activities

  • Identifying and reporting leads for donors, funders, sponsors, partners, and collaborators

  • Fluency creating campaigns and managing audiences in MailChimp.

  • Fluency using video and audio calling, text, email, and digital calendar to connect and communicate across a remote team.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite (GMail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar).
