CREDIT MANAGER

Position Summary
The Credit Manager provides ongoing evaluation of portfolio quality, interacting with other team members, clients, and HTGC management regarding specific transactions and programs. The Credit Manager works closely with members of the Deal Teams on analysis, credit underwriting, structuring and negotiating terms and conditions of funded transactions. The Credit Manager also provides ongoing oversight of portfolio companies. She/he is the point person on a portfolio of restructuring and workout transactions (both in and out of Bankruptcy) leading the deal team regarding strategy and working with internal/external counsel to finalize agreements. This position reports directly to the Senior Credit Officer but maintains responsibilities throughout the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
• Participate with Deal Teams in the Due Diligence of all new transactions
• Identify specific credit issues related to deals that must be fully diligence and mitigated as part of the underwriting
• Work with Deal Teams on constructing credit approval document to present to Investment Committee – actively participate in Investment Committee to answer credit specific questions
• Make recommendations to Senior Credit Officer to inform her/his decision-making process in Investment Committee
• Work with Deal and Legal teams to identify appropriate legal documentation specific to each transaction – actively participate in the negotiation of legal documents and surface any material change requests to the form to the Senior Credit Officer
• Follow underwriting transactions from Term Sheet to closing/funding to ensure compliance with Hercules procedures
• Review portfolio credits as part of Quarterly Portfolio Assessment – provide final decision on Credit Ratings and Valuation before submission to Investment Committee for approval
• Work jointly with Deal Team on Watch List names to develop restructuring strategy and implementation of action items related to increased mitigation of risk, and confirm which actions require Credit approval.
• Lead Workout and Restructuring transactions, providing timely updates to Senior Credit Officer

Qualifications
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior level executives, peers, junior team members (including college COOPs) and external stakeholders (venture capital and private equity professionals, portfolio executive teams, consultants, lawyers, etc.)
• Successful candidate will be a problem solver, demonstrate high energy, maintain focused and disciplined approach, and always display professionalism and high integrity.
• Candidate should have a history of working in a high intensity, dynamic environment with a capacity to meet deadlines under pressure.
7+ years’ experience in asset based or cash flow portfolio credit management, including but not limited to ongoing review, extensive work-out and insolvency (bankruptcy, foreclosure, ABC, etc.) experience.
• Experience working with growth capital loans, working capital loans, corporate loans, LBO’s, recapitalizations and distressed debt.
• Knowledge of US Bankruptcy rules related to credit workouts and restructurings.
• Previous underwriting experience working with venture capital and/or private equity backed companies preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of current regulatory/compliance issues, tax laws, accounting precepts, various specialized industry risks, and competitive trends.
• Knowledge of collateral documentation required in lending as well as a general understanding of Uniform Commercial Code requirements (UCC) from a commercial lending perspective.
• Knowledgeable in Credit Structure issues, Credit/Portfolio Administration, Pricing Yield issues, and Risk Assessment through experience as a Commercial Lending Officer and/or Credit Administration Officer.
• Advanced MS Office skills and strong knowledge of financial statements and cash flow analysis, familiarity and comfort with financial modeling, and highly skilled in industry/market credit research.
• Formal bank credit training program preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or related field – MBA preferred.
