Position Summary

An Associate at HTGC specializes in one or multiple industries - technology, life sciences, and energy technology - as part of the deal originations team. Associates collaborate with Principals, Vice Presidents, and Managing Directors to manage and expand HTGC’s investment portfolio. Some of these responsibilities include valuating next generation technologies, conducting financial analysis and business diligence on investments, and interacting with management teams and other venture capitalists, analysis of industry positioning.

Essential Responsibilities

· Provide full analytical support of new and on-going business deals, which includes due diligence and data collection and evaluation ensuring the accuracy and validity of supplied information.

· Analyze companies’ industry positioning and financial performance, including inventory and operational performance.

· Evaluate productivity, efficiency and profitability while developing a qualitative understanding of the nuances that might affect asset values.

· Assist in portfolio management as one of the key liaisons between HTGC and the portfolio companies, ensuring portfolio compliance with reporting, financial performance, and product development milestones.

· Create reports analyzing findings to review and present to management team and investment committee.

· Research the technology, life sciences, energy technology and/or other market sectors as well as its subsectors; proactively communicate to management important events and/or possible business leads that may impact or generate deals.

· Expand business opportunities through cultivation of client relationships.

· Provide additional analysis support as requested by management.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree with four to six years of related experience in a lending, financial, banking, or consulting environment.

· Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

· Proven analytical, presentation and project skills are critical.

· Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment handling multiple projects at any given time.

· Comprehensive understanding of financial statements is essential, including allocation of overhead expenses and ratio analysis. In addition, comprehensive understanding of inventory and other asset accounting methodologies is preferred.

· Demonstrated advanced proficiency with computer applications in a PC Windows based environment; experience with all MS applications is required.

· Excellent financial modeling skills incorporating Microsoft Excel.

· Understanding of key parameters and concepts important to lending to growth stage businesses.

· Familiarity with research tools such as S&P Capital IQ, Fact set, Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Venture Source, among others.

· Leadership skills to work as a project lead with an Analyst or Senior Analyst in the due diligence process or portfolio management process.

· Other duties and projects as needed.
