THE OPPORTUNITY
GLAAD is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our general ledger and revenue management processes. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic team and contribute to the growth and success of our organisation. This individual will be reporting to our Controller and should be located in the NYC/metro area.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Month-End Close process
-
Oversight of the month-end close process in collaboration with other team members to ensure a timely close.
Financial process and policy implementation:

Ensuring employee expense reports are submitted on time and within policy
-
To include credit card reports submission and approval tracking
General Ledger Maintenance
-
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
Revenue Management
-
Analyse, reconcile the database with the accounting system, and record revenue transactions, including invoicing, cash applications, and revenue recognition. Experience with grants and fee-for-service revenue recognition based on deliverables is a plus.

Perform monthly revenue reconciliations with the Development Team, analysing any variances and reporting to the Controller/CFO.
Account Reconciliations

Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank statements, credit card statements, and other balance sheet accounts.

Monthly cost allocations
Financial Reporting
-
Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Compliance and Internal Controls
-
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Annual Audit
-
Coordinate, compile files and records, and provide support for the annual audit fieldwork and walkthrough.

To include account analysis, projections, as needed, with support from the Controller
Annual Budget
-
Assist with project-based budgeting and provide support to the annual budget process.
Systems and Process Improvement
-
Working knowledge of the coordination of software transitions/Implementations of accounting, budgeting, and FPA systems.

Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Collaboration and Communication
-
Work closely with the staff accountant, other departments, including Development & Fundraising, Customer Service, and Operations, to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
The ideal candidate should possess the following experience, competencies, and personal qualities:
EXPERIENCE | EDUCATION:

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Highly desired CPA/CMA

Non-profit accounting experience is required

3-5 Years of relevant Accounting and finance experience
COMPETENCIES | PERSONAL QUALITIES

Strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and proactiveness

Solid understanding of generally accepted auditing standards and generally accepted accounting principles

Excellent accounting and FP&A software user and administration skills. Oracle NetSuite, SAP Concur, Salesforce, or a comparable invoice/expense management system is a plus

Highly skilled in creating and maintaining spreadsheets

Responding quickly and accurately to internal and external requests

Researching and resolving issues through internal and external communications

Must enjoy working in a collaborative team setting

Compensation
A competitive salary commensurate with experience is $90,000-$105,000. Benefits include 403(b) retirement plan participation; escalating vacation beginning with 19 days plus holidays; and organisation-paid health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, healthcare, and dependent options; flex spending accounts; and life and long-term disability insurance.
