Position Description 

Gowanus Canal Conservancy (GCC) is a community-based non-profit organization that serves as an environmental steward for the Gowanus Canal watershed. The Development & Office  Coordinator supports GCC’s Development Director and staff to provide effective development operations, programming, and office operations support. The Development & Office Coordinator will report directly to the Development Director.

 

Position Responsibilities 

Support Development and Fundraising

  • Assist in the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives

  • Coordinate logistics for fundraising events, including venue selection, catering, and guest management

  • Help maintain donor databases and ensure accurate and up-to-date donor records (currently Salesforce

  • Process donations, prepare acknowledgment letters, and manage donor recognition efforts.

  • Collaborate with the Development Director to identify and cultivate potential donors and funding opportunities

  • Regularly update and clean donor records to ensure data integrity

  • Generate reports and analyze fundraising data to support decision-making processes

  • Research grant opportunities and assist in the preparation of grant proposals and applications

  • Support grant reporting activities, including gathering data and preparing progress reports for funders

  • Provide on-site support during events, ensuring smooth operations and positive guest experiences

  • Provide administrative support to the development team, including scheduling meetings, maintaining calendars, and preparing materials

  • Support additional fundraising mailings

Office Coordination

  • Serve as the primary contact for office-related needs, including managing all day-to-day operations and supporting office operational efficiency

  • Maintain a high-functioning office, which includes managing appearance of common areas and meeting spaces, including kitchen, storage and organization, signage and performing some regular maintenance tasks, such as watering plants and keeping displays stocked

  • Make office supply, appliance and equipment orders and track expenses and inventory

  • Serve as primary point of contact for staff in troubleshooting office systems and account support, including appliances, phone, computers, server, internet, printer, software and point of sale technology. Liaise with IT consultant as needed.

  • Manage organizational Google Suite, including calendar, shared drive, email accounts

  • Coordinate social events including holiday parties, retreats, celebrations

 

 Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in fundraising, office operations, data management, or executive assistance

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, WordPress, Salesforce, Video conferencing 

  • Tech savvy and interest and ability to learn new systems, software and troubleshoot

  • Detail oriented with excellent time management, project management, and organizational skills

  • Team player with ability to problem-solve and take initiative 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Communicating information; reading and typing; using video conferencing

  • Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.

Schedule: This is a part-time hourly position, up to 20 hours per week; exact schedule will be determined in coordination with new employees. The role is primarily in person at the GCC office in Gowanus. Some work can take place remotely.

Compensation: $26 - $28 / hour. Benefits include up to 5 sick days.
