The Position

The Desktop Support Specialist will be responsible for a range of tasks related to maintaining, upgrading, and supporting the organization's desktop and laptop environments. This includes imaging laptops, OS installations, hardware and software support, asset management, antivirus and malware management, and participation in SOC-2 audits. The role also encompasses overseeing the disposal of equipment and ensuring compliance with disposal regulations, evaluating OS upgrades and patches, addressing security vulnerabilities, and maintaining software policies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Operating Systems:

  • Create and maintain standardized system images for Windows and Macs
  • Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot operating systems on laptops
  • Test/validate new operating system versions and patches prior to company-wide roll outs
  • Provide technical support for issues on both Windows and Mac platforms
  • Perform regular scans to ensure employees laptops are up to date with latest security patches

Software Support:

  • Install, upgrade, and manage antivirus and malware software
  • Regularly perform scans and ensure systems are protected from threats
  • Develop and maintain a list of approved software and their versions
  • Perform software audits to ensure no unapproved software is installed on users’ laptops
  • Take immediate action to mitigate risks and respond to security incidents
  • Implement and manage remote control software that allows connectivity to employees’ laptops for troubleshooting
  • Serve as resource manager
    • Purchase, allocate, track and revoke resource utilizations
    • Handle all requests for resource password resets and troubleshooting as admin for various Claritas software technologies
    • Manage distribution Groups – Google Groups and Project User accounts
    • Participate in quarterly Infrateam audits
    • Coordinate with People Operations to manage onboarding and offboarding activities
    • Manage procurement process along with vendor and supplier relationships

Asset Management:

  • Collaborate with Finance to purchase and deploy IT desktop equipment
  • Ensure cost-effective purchasing while meeting technical requirements
  • Maintain a comprehensive inventory of laptops
  • Track and manage asset allocation, relocation, replacement and disposal
  • Obtain certification of disposal to comply with compliance regulations
  • Purchase and maintain foundational desktop support software

Security and compliance:

  • Collaborate with the IT security and compliance teams to provide documentation and evidence for SOC-2 Audits

Who You Are

Skills/Knowledge:

  • 3+ years of experience in desktop support and IT asset management
  • Experience working in a remote workplace environment
  • Proficiency in Windows and Mac operating systems
  • Strong knowledge of antivirus and malware software
  • Experience with SOC-2 audits and compliance
  • Familiarity with IT equipment procurement and disposal
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field
