Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of marketing, public relations and communications for Horizons Community Solutions. Incorporated in 2002, and originally called the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia, Horizons is a rapidly growing, nationally-recognized nonprofit organization. The Communications Coordinator plans, implements, manages and evaluates all public relations, marketing and other communication activities for the organization. His/her duties support Horizons’ various programs and projects, fundraising events, leadership needs, and the organization as a whole. The role includes serving as a spokesperson to various community groups and the media. The Communications Coordinator acts with a high level of initiative, responsibility and confidentiality in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment. The position is primarily located at Horizons’ main office in Albany, Georgia, but may involve occasional travel in the South Georgia region. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Communications, Marketing and Public Relations
    • Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate communications, marketing and public relations activities of Horizons programs and projects, leadership, and overall organizational branding, in collaboration with Horizons leadership and other staff.
    • Support communications needs of fundraising efforts, in collaboration with Events Coordinator.
    • Serve as spokesperson for Horizons to wide range of individuals and groups, including the media, community organizations, businesses, donors, and the general public.
    • Design, execute and evaluate a strategic and comprehensive communications/marketing plan for the organization. 
    • Prepare reports, proposals, budgets, projections, and analysis, as required and requested.
  • Website, Social Media, and Traditional Media Presence
    • Consistently develop, manage and promote Horizons' website.
    • Increase appropriate and effective use of social media communications.
    • Regularly review, develop and guide dissemination of traditional media documents.
  • Graphic Design
    • Create visual concepts with computer software to effectively communicate ideas.
    • Develop the overall layout and production design for Horizons' materials such as brochures, advertisements, website, and annual report.
  • Other Projects and Responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field (Required)

Experience

  • 2-4 years Initiating and implementing communications campaigns (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years Success in working with various media venues, including traditional and social media (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years Website development and/or maintenance (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years Presenting to group audiences (Preferred)
  • 1-2 years Graphic design (Preferred). Training will be provided if needed.

  • Able and willing to give engaging presentations and represent the organization to varied groups and to the media
  • Commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop

Work Environment/Other Information

  • Minimal travel required
  • Occasionally lift/carry 10 lbs, and with assistance, lift/carry 20 lbs
  • Work in clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting
