Role Overview:

The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing end-to-end Supply Chain Operations across logistics, distribution, warehousing, and manufacturing for a global luxury eyewear brand. Based in Japan, this role requires a hands-on, strategic leader with deep experience in distribution operations, strong cross-cultural communication ability, and the proven capability to scale and refine operational excellence across multiple regions.

The ideal candidate will be a relationship-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-craft environment, with a keen understanding of luxury products, precision manufacturing, and global supply-chain dynamics. Fluency in both Japanese and English is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full operations lifecycle covering manufacturing, logistics, distribution, and warehousing across Japan, APAC, and other global markets..

  • Build, mentor, and develop high-performing cross-functional teams spanning production, inventory control, logistics, and vendor management.

  • Drive operational strategy, annual planning, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.

  • Oversee daily operations at Japan-based manufacturing partners and internal production teams.

  • Ensure production schedules, capacity plans, and quality standards are aligned with brand expectations and global demand.

  • Strengthen relationships with factories, raw-material suppliers, and finishing partners to ensure consistent quality and reliability.

  • Manage global logistics flows, import/export compliance, distribution center operations, and 3PL performance.

  • Optimize warehouse layout, inventory accuracy, picking/packing processes, and fulfillment SLAs.

  • Build scalable distribution strategies to support new markets, DTC programs, retail expansion, and wholesale partners.

  • Communicate operational performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.

  • Champion the use of technology across ERP, WMS, production planning tools, and quality tracking systems.

  • Leverage data to drive decision-making, streamline workflows, and improve operational visibility.

  • Partner with IT and data teams to enhance system integrations, reporting, and automation.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in operations, supply chain, logistics, or manufacturing, with at least 5 years in distribution-focused leadership roles.

  • Proven experience managing complex global distribution and production workflows.
    Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop teams at multiple levels.

  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills across cultures and departments.
    Demonstrated proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite), WMS, planning tools, and operational technology.

  • Native-level or fluent Japanese AND fluent English (written and spoken).

  • Experience working in or with Japan-based factories strongly preferred; luxury or high-craft industry experience a plus.
