Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of highly engineered locking systems. They are currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for leading projects for existing products, as well as leading the design for next generation IoT electromechanical products. In this role, you will help choose the best concepts and technologies to fulfill product requirements, design, prototype, validate, and maintain products while ensuring the scalability, reliability, and simplicity of the design. Proven experience taking a design from concept through manufacturing is required.

The successful candidate must show strong analytical and communication skills, be comfortable doing hands-on work, be disciplined and detail oriented in completing work assignments, and be ready to thrive in a collaborative environment.

Please note that this role is required to be on-site in the office (Huntington, NY area).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical system requirements and specifications to meet customer, marketing, and internal stakeholder needs.
  • Define design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality when considering product cost, manufacturability, and available technologies.
  • Ensure designs meet system requirements through proper verification methods.
  • Develop required design documentation, 3D models/drawings, and instructions for manufacturing and product test requirements.
  • Understand Software, Electronics and Wireless technologies well enough to operate in a cross functional design environment.
  • Coordinate development timelines and track activities to meet delivery and cost commitments.
  • Providing technical leadership of cross-functional teams, leading design reviews and supplier reviews, and process development/enhancement.
  • Provide day-to-day direction and technical oversight for other team members.

 

Job Requirements and Qualification

  • 5 + years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Experience in mechanical design, requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling (preferably SolidWorks), data collection, and product documentation.
  • Strong hands-on capabilities, to include integration and diagnosis of complex mechanisms and products.
  • Mimimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

 

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with consumer electronics, small-scale mechanical systems, IoT devices, access control, or locks a big plus!
