Secure Decisions, a division of Applied Visions (AVI), seeks a Senior Researcher to join our multi-disciplinary team of software developers, psychologists, and computer security experts. At Secure Decisions we perform cyber security R&D and develop cutting-edge technologies under contracts primarily funded by the federal government including the US Departments of Defense and Homeland Security. We have a strong track record of transferring the results of our R&D into commercial products and open source projects. AVI, our parent company, builds software and mobile applications for commercial clients.

We expect successful candidates for this Senior Researcher position to quickly grow into the role of Principal Investigator. You will lead small teams of researchers and software engineers to conduct R&D in areas related to application security or software engineering, as well as develop software prototypes of related technologies. You will help understand the problem, assess potential approaches, design solutions, and evaluate the results. You will connect with other researchers, publish papers, attend conferences, write reports, and present progress and results to the research sponsors.

Our immediate need is for a researcher to play a leadership role on a research project that analyzes human behaviors during the software development process. The goal is to identify the characteristics of software developers and teams that are associated with the introduction of software vulnerabilities. The ideal candidate should be able to formulate research questions, oversee the collection and analysis of data from software repositories and application security testing tools, and communicate the results.

You should be able to:

· Conduct and supervise research, including study design, data collection, and analysis of data related to human dimensions of software engineering and software security

· Comfortably use a range of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, tools, techniques

· Use statistical packages, such as R, and interpret results of statistical analyses

· Work closely with technical staff and cross-functional peers in a collaborative team environment

· Track progress of research against schedule and budget, and document that progress in reports

· Clearly communicate research approach and findings to expert and non-expert audiences through reports, presentations, and in-person discussion

· Envision and communicate how the research results can be used in software engineering best practices, application security analyses, open source projects, or commercial products

· Prepare papers for publications

· Perform with minimal supervision

Preference given to candidates with:

· A Masters or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cognitive Sciences, Human Factors, or related disciplines

· Knowledge of application security; vulnerabilities in source code

· Software development experience

· Experience with open source repositories

· Experience writing research proposals

· History of research publications and conference presentations
