Secure Decisions, a division of Applied Visions, Inc. (AVI), is searching for an Information Visualization Researcher to join our multi-disciplinary team of software developers, psychologists, and computer security experts. At Secure Decisions, we design and implement cutting edge technology solutions that help people in the government and private sectors defend computer networks and ensure the security of application software. We are a leading provider of cyber security R&D and have a strong track record of successfully commercializing our research. AVI, our parent company, builds commercial mobile apps and software to support the rapidly expanding Internet of Things market.
We are seeking a visualization and usability specialist with education and experience in information visualization and human-computer interaction. The ideal candidate will also have experience with visualization of cyber information, such as network activity. As an Information Visualization Researcher for our Secure Decisions division, you will be responsible for the research and development of new visual analysis technologies and interaction techniques to enable clear and relevant insight from complex data. This role requires exceptional communication and writing skills, plus experience in information visualization design, data analysis, and prototyping.
Responsibilities
1. Designing dashboards, innovative visualizations and interaction techniques, and visual decision support systems to solve the challenges of information security and other cyber-related domains.
2. Soliciting requirements and use cases from users, and communicating those to the software development team.
3. Preparing for and executing the evaluation and usability testing of developed information visualization software.
4. Implementing prototype software to demonstrate data analysis and/or visualization techniques.
5. Serving as the information visualization subject matter expert to projects and proposals.
6. Managing projects, including serving as Principal Investigator on contracts.
7. Writing research grant proposals.
Qualifications
1. Masters or Ph.D. in information systems, computer science, fine arts, human factors or a related field.
2. Three (3) years of experience in information visualization and interaction design.
3. Demonstrated proficiency with relevant statistical and machine learning data analysis techniques.
4. Experience in preparation of research grant proposals or government contract proposals.
5. Excellent leadership, problem solving, and communication skills.
6. Demonstrated proficiency working both independently and in teams.
7. U.S. Citizenship Required.
Pluses
1. Knowledge of the challenges to human analysts working with cyber data such as intrusion detection alerts, network or application vulnerabilities, and network performance data.
2. Ability to prepare papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals or conferences and supporting the preparation of proposals for research and development funding.
3. Currently active U.S. Secret clearance.
