Required Skills/Knowledge for the After School Sports & Fitness Youth Program Director (005) Position:


 


  • Ensure a healthy, safe environment in program areas.   
  • Deliver fun and engaging programming for boys and girls, ages 6-18.    
  • Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating departmental staff.
  • Supervise assigned staff members in all phases of their work.   
  • Recruit members to consistently participate in sports & fitness programming.  
  • Ensure members demonstrate new skills and sportsmanship. 
  • Develop instructional and competitive games, sports and various activities.   
  • Ensure thorough evaluation for all departmental programs and services. 
  • Initiate and maintain community contacts with families, schools and other organizations and institutions to enhance programs and services.   


Essential Duties and Responsibilities for the After School Sports & Fitness Youth Program Director (005) Position:


  • Plan and create new and innovative programs that meet the needs of the community in keeping with the Club’s priority objectives, BGCA core programs and strategic plan. Develop curriculum as needed.
  • Direct all Youth Sports and Fitness programs conducted at the Club.
  • Conduct periodic evaluations of existing programs and develop improvement plans.
  • Research community needs and recommend programming to address needs.
  • Implement BGCA curriculum to all necessary programs.
  • Monitor rooms and equipment for safety and purchase new equipment and program materials.
  • Work with staff to ensure an emphasis on quality programming and services.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises the Sports & Fitness Assistant, Social Recreation Coordinator, and Aquatics Program Coordinator.

 

Work Environment

This job primarily operates in a youth center environment and occasionally, some outdoor locations. The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive.

·         Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.

·         Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

·         Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities.

·         Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment.

·         Function in a workplace that can be noisy at times.

 

Physical Demands

The Sports & Fitness Director is expected to assist leisure and sporting events in all weather conditions. He/she will be expected to lift, carry and manage equipment and supplies and participate in and train others in the rules of sport. He/she may have to work odd or long hours at a time to complete special requests or projects or to participate in or coordinate evening and off-hour activities. The Sports & Fitness Director may be participating in and leading strenuous physical activities, both indoors and out.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full time position and hours of work and days are as follows:

·         September – June: Monday through Friday 1:00pm to 9:00pm.

·         July – August: Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Occasional morning and/or evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

Travel

Work may require local travel and occasional overnight travel.
