The Clinical Assistant (Optometry) helps to ensure the best possible eye care experience to our patients and to provide seamless support to a team of optometrists. The Clinical Assistant (Optometry) works within the optometry care team, under the supervision of the Director of Optometry, to prepare patients for exams, assist with frames selection, order glasses and contact lenses and arrange patient referrals.


This is a per diem opportunity, which mean as needed.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Collects patient ocular history.
  • Enters patient charts for the day.  
  • Performs pretests as directed by the doctor (autorefractor with non-contact tonometry, visual field testing, retinal imaging, stereopsis, color vision)
  • Manages continuous patient flow by effectively communicating with team members and providers.
  • Supports communication between patient and provider related to treatment instructions, questions patients may have regarding physician’s orders, use of medications, and contact lenses.
  • Schedules follow-up appointments as needed. 
  • Disinfects and wipes down all equipment and instruments.
  • Checks VSP eligibility for patients scheduled. 
  • Replenishes supplies as needed (trials, exam room supplies).
  • Checks in contact lens trials ordered for patients and follows up with patients. 
  • Uploads spectacle and contact lens prescriptions to patient portal.  
  • Manages specialist referral logs. 
  • Maintains patient’s confidentiality; complies with HIPAA, Patient Privacy Policies.
  • Adheres to OSHA policies and reports any perceived hazards to their supervisor or OSHA Safety Officer upon discovery.
  • Attends OSHA and other training programs as required.
  • Attends all regular Staff Meetings.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma plus one to two years in optical or medical field.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment to perform required pre-examination tests on patients.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage their time.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Availability to work all operational hours as needed.
  • Must be punctual and maintain a good attendance record.
