SUMMARY

The Optometrist works to provide the best possible eye care and a supportive, caring experience to our patients.  Using independent professional judgment in the practice of optometry within the scope of the laws of the state of California and the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry, the Optometrist provides high quality optometry care services.  An emphasis on patient-centered care with a high-touch/concierge-like approach is essential to how care is delivered. 

The Optometrist will work a 4x10 shift, Monday-Friday between our operating hours of 8am-8pm. This is a full time, 40 hour/week opportunity. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

 

  • Provide outpatient care for patients with eye-related disorders and conditions.
  • Takes appropriate actions(s) to address patients' chief complaint(s) and ensure ocular health and visual needs are met.
  • Conduct routine eye examinations, including visual field and binocular tests.
  • Take detailed medical histories for all patients, including current and past prescription medications.
  • Evaluate eye-related symptoms, such as discharge, redness, inflammation, infection. 
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate for treatment of ocular findings.
  • Accurately interprets data from clinical exam.
  • Makes sound clinical diagnoses.
  • Clearly documents impressions and clinical action plan in the chart including referrals to other providers, long term medical management and/or optical and therapeutic prescriptions dispensed and recommendations to patients.
  • Prescribe corrective lenses when required.
  • Provide contact lens services required by patients in the practice, including contact lens fittings, refits, pick-ups and replacements.
  • Refer patients to board-certified ophthalmologists when required for more specialized eye care.
  • Clearly educate patients about proper eye hygiene and care and exam findings. 
  • Perform glasses checks for patients having difficulty with new glasses, and assist in optical as needed.
  • Collaborate with primary care providers for care of patient with diabetes, hypertension, and other medical conditions. 

 

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Performs other related duties such as completing school or employer forms, DMV, FAA and other like documents.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

  • State of California Optometrist & OD license 
  • Doctorate degree from accredited School of Optometry
  • 4+ years’ experience working as an optometrist
  • Excellent customer service and organization skills
  • Advanced time management skills
  • Ability to diagnose and treat eye-related disorders and conditions
  • Compliance with AC Wellness Occupational Health Policy, including required immunizations.
