Project Liberty is seeking a dynamic Chief of Staff to support the Executive Director of McCourt Institute, using strong leadership and problem-solving skills to align executive functioning with strategic priorities. Project Liberty’s McCourt Institute 

 

The McCourt Institute, established in 2021 with founding partners Sciences Po in Paris and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., aims to ensure that sound digital governance and informed policymaking is prioritized in the development of new technology and embedded in the next generation of the web. The Institute works to enhance digital governance by supporting timely, actionable research on ethical technology and serving as a meeting ground for technologists, social scientists, policymakers and governance experts, and leaders from the public and private sector. The Institute is part of Project Liberty, an international non-profit initiative that seeks to transform how the internet works, create a more equitable digital economy, and develop a new civic architecture for the digital world. 

 

Position  

The McCourt Institute is preparing for a phase of rapid growth to advance its mission, and therefore is seeking a hands-on leader who will play a key role supporting the Executive Director. This role, will oversee a team in charge of coordinating engagement with stakeholders, including but not limited to academia, and organizing events and overseeing communications of the Institute. Our ideal candidate will champion a culture of collaboration throughout the organization, working with both administrative and program staff to streamline operations, processes, and staffing, and will oversee project management, and problem-solve emergent issues. 

 

This role is best suited for a candidate with deep expertise in nonprofit operations and management, strategic executive support and cross-functional leadership. Successful candidates will possess strong presentation and written communication skills, and a highly collaborative and solutions-oriented approach.   


Location: Paris, France

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support to Executive Director on strategic and operational issues such as strategic planning and goal-setting, fundraising and team and office management 

  • Strategically manage the Executive Director’s time: manage executive assistant, review and evaluate leaders' external opportunities, internal priorities, long-term travel and meeting plans, and assess fit against priorities 

  • Lead operations for McCourt Institute, liaising with PL leaders of HR, Finance, Legal and IT functions within Project Liberty to assist with the design and implementation of systems and processes to support a growing team in Europe and the US 

  • Oversee cross-functional, Institute-wide projects or initiatives; drive collaboration and internal communications between Institute and other Project Liberty teams and entities; bring together important stakeholders and help drive decisions 

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage international relations and partnerships with governments, international organizations, corporations and other stakeholders to raise the Institute’s profile 

  • Prepare for and follow up on meetings: draft pitch decks, talking points and presentations, manage follow-ups and action items across internal and external engagements 

  • Lead communication activities for the McCourt Institute in collaboration with the Head of Communications of Project Liberty
  • Adhere to and promote the values of the Institute  

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required in International Relations, Public Policy, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. Additional qualification in Information Sciences or Technology would be an asset. 

  • 4 to 7 years of progressive experience in working at the international level, including with international intergovernmental or corporate organizations, academia and non-profit organizations  

  • Capable of effectively functioning and leading in a matrix environment across the Institute and the entire Project Liberty ecosystem 

  • Strong leadership and planning skills, including demonstrated ability to work with senior management from diverse cultures and organizations 

  • Ability to understand Project Liberty’s core business and the web3 ecosystem is strongly preferred 

  • Capable of soliciting constructive input from and building consensus among groups of constituencies with differing priorities and perspectives 

  • Needs to be an entrepreneur and a highly effective implementer in order to identify new opportunities for programs, campaigns, and partnerships to advance the Institute’s mission 

  • Persuasive, well-organized, and compelling presenter with the confidence and skill necessary to represent the Institute effectively and professionally in international public policy forums  

  • Experience with writing policy documents for a range of audiences, including governments 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional languages very desirable 

  • Familiarity and comfort with Internet-based communication and work tools 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability interact positively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment  

  • Ability to travel as needed 

  

Compensation  

Salary is commensurate with experience.
