Magic Soup is seeking a motivated and passionate 3D character artist to join our team. This role requires a high level of skill in 3D modeling as well as a deep understanding of anatomy, and shape language. They do not have to check every single box on the skill tree, but they are humble, curious, and eager to learn.

What we’re looking for:

  1. Tools: Maya and Unreal Experience:
  • Proficiency with Maya or other standard 3d software package. Expert Zbrush user. As well as knowledge using photoshop and substance as it applies to the character pipeline.
  1. Real-time Experience:
    • Experience using real-time engines in a production setting, preferably having done so in the Unreal Engine
    • Understanding of game art production process and performance implications related to in-game assets
  2. Character Creation Experience:
    • Strong skills in anatomy, proportion, weight, mass, volume, form, and silhouette
    • Experience and understanding in both realistic and stylized art
    • Knowledge of rigging / skinning as it relates to implementation, usage, and experience interacting with rigging and tech artists
    • Expert knowledge in the creation of low and high poly approaches to characters and form solutions
    • Strong understanding of value, color theory, and ability to both accentuate and or streamline as necessary in order to create the desired detail in texture maps
    • Experience with character creation / customization systems is a plus
  3. History of Product Development:
  • 5+ years on a game team delivering high quality assets for player characters, creatures, and NPCs.
  • Ability to work within deadlines.
