JOB SUMMARY:

Researchers in the Military Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (MiCOR) Program within the Department of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD are looking for a highly motivated college graduate to serve as a full-time (40 hours/week) research coordinator for several research projects focused on disordered eating, behavioral and mental health, and cardiometabolic outcomes. The research coordinators will join the multidisciplinary team (psychology, behavioral health, cardiology, data science) in the MiCOR Program, which aims to understand the impact of military service - particularly stress, eating behaviors, weight gain, physical activity, and pharmacotherapy - on cardiovascular risk. The MiCOR mission is to enhance the cardiovascular health and well-being of the Warfighter and the Department of Defense (DoD) community through innovative clinical research using precision techniques. MiCOR has a variety of clinical research studies focused on both the biomedical and behavioral components that contribute to cardiovascular risk and disease.

 

Responsibilities of this position include recruitment of study participants, administering of psychological assessments, data collection, entry, and management, preparation of study materials for institutional review board submissions, and other administrative duties. This position is ideal for individuals who are planning to pursue graduate studies in psychology, mental health, medicine, or related fields. The position offers a competitive full-time salary with benefits, and a two-year commitment is requested. The successful candidate will be hired through The Metis Foundation, which is a 501c (3) specifically organized to advance clinically relevant scientific research to the medical community, especially within the Department of Defense.

Opportunities for the research coordinator position include:

  • Experience working directly with research participants.
  • Experience with innovative data collection methods (e.g., ecological momentary assessment, ambulatory devices)
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary research topics, including genomic medicine, cardiovascular health (electrophysiology, cardiogenetic disease, cardiovascular recovery), and the impact of disordered eating, body composition, and behavioral health on the cardiovascular system.
  • Training in a wide range of assessments for eating behaviors and psychosocial functioning.
  • Mentorship from research experts in the fields of eating disorders, psychology, and cardiology.
  • Potential for mentorship and authorship on scientific presentations and publications.

Work Environment: Office and laboratory setting; hybrid work schedule; possible evenings and/or weekend hours to accommodate research participant schedules.

Minimum Education Requirements: An individual with a bachelor's degree (obtained by the start date for the position) in a psychology- or health-related field who is highly responsible and self-motivated.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A successful candidate must have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Must be able to obtain applicable Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certifications. Must meet requirements to be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card. Preferred: Some prior research experience, especially in the areas of psychology, behavioral health, and/or cardiovascular outcomes.
