Venture For America is currently seeking a Vice-President to lead our Talent team. This team does all the recruitment, selection, and onboarding for the Fellowship and leads internal hiring as well. Last year, Venture For America generated over 3,000 applications for a class of approximately 200 Fellows. The Role:

The Vice-President of Talent reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and leads Venture For America’s Fellow recruiting, selection, and onboarding efforts as well as VFA’s internal team hiring processes. You will be expected to own all processes associated with those efforts and manage the team of dedicated professionals to execute all associated projects. You will also join the Senior Leadership Team and participate in strategic discussions to shape the future of Venture For America.

 

Location Preference: VFA city 

 

What you’ll do:

As VP of Talent you will spend about 80% of your time on Talent Team leadership to build the Fellowship cohort and about 20% of your time on internal organization work such as internal hiring and organization-wide leadership.

 

Talent Team Management & Leadership (40%)

  • Set vision & strategy to ensure VFA hits ambitious candidate acquisition, selection, and Training Camp attendance goals

  • Manage our top-notch Talent team (five full time employees with one to three seasonal contractors), working to help them achieve personal and professional goals

Fellow Recruitment (15%)

  • Support the Director of Recruitment to ensure high marks on application quantity, quality, and diversity, and retention throughout the selection process

  • Continue to refine our virtual recruitment strategies in light of a changing world 

  • Collect and analyze data to identify the most effective methods of reaching promising Fellowship candidates

Fellow Selection (15%)

  • Support the Sr. Manager of Selection as they design and execute an inclusive application process & equitable selection model 

  • Support the Sr. Manager of Selection with decision making and final approval on candidate selections following Selection Committee 

Fellow Onboarding & Confirmation (10%)

  • Support the manager of confirmation & onboarding to ensure accepted applicants confirm our offer at high rates and deliver a robust & diverse cohort to summer Training Camp

  • Manage the development of the Onboarding curriculum for Incoming Fellows

  • Participate in VFA Fellow onboarding and Training Camp activities, as is expected of all team members.

Internal Recruiting and Hiring (10%)

  • Collaborate with the CEO and COO to set vision & strategy to ensure that the VFA team is staffed with the right people at the right time to achieve our mission

  • Manage internal team job search strategy & processes in a leadership capacity.

Organization-wide Leadership (10%)

  • Serve as a leader throughout the organization, taking on org-wide projects outside of Talent

  • Collaborate with the leadership continuum to ensure VFA Fellows are strong startup contributors

  • Participate in organizational priorities, as is expected of all Team members

  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team

 

You:

  • Earned a bachelor's degree or higher and preferably have 7+ years of experience in talent acquisition

  • Have experience managing a team to achieve impressive results

  • Have a track record of setting, owning, & achieving ambitious goals

  • Are adaptable in a fast-paced nonprofit, comfortable with ambiguity, and take initiative to solve problems before being asked 

  • Hold a growth mindset when faced with setbacks

  • Demonstrate next-level communication skills in person, writing, and virtually

  • Have a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Live in one of our VFA cities (preferred) or New York City
