Venture for America is a nonprofit Fellowship program that recruits, selects, and trains highly talented recent college graduates, places them at startups in emerging US cities for two years of hands-on experience and provides them with access to the network and resources to become company builders and job creators. The Fellowship is highly selective, as is our team, and we’re looking for people who can jump in and make a huge impact.

We are looking for a talented and seasoned grant writer to join our team on a part-time basis.  As a grant writer, you will serve a critical function within our development team, supporting our fundraisers and relationship managers in telling the VFA story.  We are funded by a mix of donors including national corporates such as UBS and Uber and regional foundations across our 14 cities.

You are:

  • A strong writer who has a way with words. You can tell the story behind the data and bring the impact of VFA’s work to life for our donors and supporters.

  • Creative in your thinking. You can think beyond what we’ve already done to tell our story in new, compelling ways.

  • A grant writing expert with a record of successfully funded foundation and corporate grants.

  • Versed in the current startup, entrepreneurship, and innovation landscape, and able to clearly, concisely draw connections between these trends, our work, and our desired impact.

What you’ll do:

  • Work alongside our CEO and the rest of the Development team to draft fundraising documents, including corporate and foundation proposals, sponsorship materials, grant reports for current partners, etc.

  • We estimate a workload of 5-10 hours/per week depending on the number of grants or reports due at a given time, with the flexibility to work more hours if needed

  • Liaise with internal departments to gather data and pull fresh insights to frame our impact for potential funders

  • Uphold the VFA mission in all areas of your work

Helpful Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in high-growth nonprofits

  • Experience in securing multi-year commitments from donors

  • Minimum BA/BS

  • Direct connection with a VFA city or other specific aspect of the VFA mission a plus

To apply:

Submit your CV and a cover letter that explains:

  • Why you identify with the VFA Mission

  • Your approach to grant writing and a successful proposal that illuminates how you developed it

  • Why this is the right opportunity for you at this point in your career
