Are you a partnerships/fundraising/sales powerhouse interested in building community in Baltimore? Are you passionate about inclusive innovation, startups and entrepreneurship? Do you approach challenges with a can-do attitude? We are looking for a results-oriented, proactive communicator to support Venture For America’s program in one of our largest markets, Baltimore.


As the Community Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the Baltimore Community Director to carry out all VFA operations essential to the local program's continued growth. You'll collaborate with the Community Director to advise our Fellows in their professional journeys, cultivate a community for the Baltimore Fellows, increase local funding partnerships and execute new strategic initiatives for the organization. 


What you’ll do:

 

Programs and Fellow Support (40%)

  • Meet regularly with Fellows and serve as a sounding board in their career progression

  • Organize monthly events for Fellows to connect with the Baltimore community and each other, including a speaker series and cohort-bonding activities

  • Work closely with the Fellow City Leadership Council to strengthen the program

  • Recruit new mentors and volunteers to support the VFA program under the direction of the Community Director


Company Partnerships (35%)

  • Attend meetings with the Community Director and 75+ startup leaders annually to identify and onboard Company Partners to hire VFA Fellows

  • Send communication materials to keep Company Partners active in the Fellow hiring process

  • Support Community Director with administrative work related to VFA Fellow job seeking process

  • Support Community Director to reach placement goal of 22 Fellows at Company Partners in Baltimore in 2020

  • Organize and coordinate the Northeast Regional Job Fair - annual hiring event - in Baltimore in spring 2020


 Fundraising (15%)

  • Provide administrative assistance to the Community Director in maintaining and growing new funder relationships 

  • Support Community Director in local Advisory Board management, including: Identifying and recruiting new, diverse members to help determine VFA's strategic direction and connect VFA more deeply with the local community

  • Collaborate with Community Director to write top-caliber proposals and reports to funding organizations under strict deadlines

  • Support the Community Director in organizing and coordinating VFA’s Innovation Trek - the flagship fundraising event of the year


Fellow Recruitment and Selection (10%)

In addition to the responsibilities unique to Community Directors described above, all VFA team members devote a portion of their time to Fellow recruitment and selection, which occurs on an ongoing basis between August and March.

  • Participate in local recruitment events

  • Evaluate written fellowship applications

  • Conduct candidate interviews

  • Facilitate Selection Days

  • Host Selection Days in your city as necessary, including fundraising for the event, securing a venue, and recruiting Selection Day judges


You will also support VFA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, as is expected of all team members.


What you may have already done:

  • Worked for 3+ years and have a proven track record of growing an organization/company through fundraising, partnerships, and/or sales

  • Have developed a working knowledge of the Baltimore startup and/or philanthropic community

  • Achieved results while working autonomously with little to no direction

  • Coached diverse, recent college graduates to navigate challenges in work/personal life

  • Written grant proposals to foundations and corporate donors

  • Worked for a startup or in an organization supporting startups and/or have experience supporting diverse entrepreneurs
