We are looking for an Associate Teacher looking to gain classroom experience in a special education setting. The Associate Teacher reports directly to the two head teachers in a classroom consisting of approximately ten children, providing academic and social-emotional support to the students along with clerical and instructional support to the teachers. Associate teachers have the opportunity to receive mentorship and support from the head teachers as well as the clinical staff. A benefit of this position is the amount of professional development one will obtain in working with twice-exceptional youth and being mentored by veteran special education teachers and clinicians. Given the rapid growth of our school, we expect teacher vacancies in most years. Individuals who have been successful as associate teachers for at least two years are given special consideration for teaching vacancies as they arise, and promoting from within is commonplace at Quad Preparatory School.


Expectations for this position include:

  • Assisting the head teachers in Fully contribute to planning and executing high-quality, differentiated lessons in the areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning as part of a cross-curricular inquiry based projects and social, emotional and executive functioning learning with a collaborative, integrated team of educators and therapists.

  • Following the directives guidance of the psychosocial and educational staff in working with the individual children as per each child’s academic and social and emotional goals, (including self-regulation, impulse control and executive functioning). 

  • Following the professional code and policies of the school and conducting oneself in a manner that promotes the mission and vision of the school.

  • Being versatile, flexible, and patient yet firm.

  • Empowering students to take charge of their learning by providing all necessary scaffolding, modeling, materials, and resources, and consistently maintaining a high level of expectation for student success.

  • Facilitating projects and/or independent activities nurturing the talents and interests of individual students.

  • Leading small-group discussions and collaborations extending from the academic curriculum under the guidance of the head teachers.

  • Supervising students during non-instructional times, including snack, lunch, and outdoor time.

  • Utilizing Google Suite, in particular Google Drive and Docs.

  • Completing clerical tasks in support of classroom learning, including data entry, photocopying, and designing bulletin boards.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a school setting. School is located on the fourth floor of a building with two elevators. This role requires working in various locations around the school and accompanying students to a local park for outdoor time.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items under 20 pounds. During fire drills, the employee, unless physically unable, will need to use the stairs to go to ground level from the fourth floor. Typing is required for composing emails and writing reports. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position in an educational facility which is open eight hours a day. Employee will work ten months out of the year according to the academic calendar (late August to late June). Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. In general, though, hours are Monday-Friday 8 A.M.-4 P.M. for employees working with students in grades K-5 and 8:15 A.M.-4:15 P.M. for employees working with students in grades 6-12. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.

  • Experience working with school-aged children.

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree in education or content-specialty area or enrollment in a Master’s program.

  • Experience teaching school-aged children.

  • Experience working with twice-exceptional youth.

  • Special education training, in particular training in working with twice-exceptional youth.
