We are looking for a long-term substitute (December-June) looking to gain classroom experience in a special education setting. The floating teacher reports directly to the Lower School Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Talent Development, providing academic and social-emotional instruction to the students along with occasional clerical and instructional support to the Curriculum Coordinator/Director of Talent Development. Associate teachers have the opportunity to receive mentorship and support from administration, head teachers, and clinical staff. A benefit of this position is the amount of professional development one will obtain in working with twice-exceptional youth and being mentored by veteran special education teachers and clinicians. Given the rapid growth of our school, we expect teacher vacancies in most years. If the hired individual is successful in this role, every effort would be made to extend this person’s contract into the 2020-2021 school year. Note, though, that there is no guarantee of a contract beyond the current school year.
Expectations for this position include:
Follow the professional code and policies in the school, and conduct self in a way that promotes the mission of the school.
Follow the guidance of the psychosocial and educational staff in working with the individual children in different classes as fits each child’s goals.
Be present at school every day whether or not another teacher is absent.
Take over schedule and classes as assigned for any teacher (head teacher, specialist teacher, associate teacher, or psychosocial teacher) across the Lower School who is absent from the classroom for a whole or part day.
Follow plans left by teacher.
Have alternate activities for various grades and subjects in the case of no plans left.
Follow directions of other teachers in the classroom as to the schedule and routine for that prep.
Report to teacher upon his or her return as to what was accomplished during their absence.
Provide additional coverage/classroom assistance when needed, as directed by the Lower School Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Talent Development.
Attend all professional development days.
Attend Friday afternoon psychosocial meetings per the direction of the Lower School Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Talent Development.
Must be able to use Google Suite, specifically Google Drive and Google Docs.
Supervise students during non-instructional times (including snack and outdoor time).
Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a school setting. School is located on the fourth floor of a building. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the school and accompanying students to a local park for outdoor time.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items under 20 pounds. During fire drills, the employee, unless physically unable, will need to use the stairs to go to ground level from the fourth floor. Typing required for composing emails and writing reports. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time long-term substitute position in an educational facility which is open 8 hours a day. Employee will work from the date of hire until the last day of school. Hours for this position are Monday-Friday from 8 A.M.-4 P.M. On rare occasions, weekend or evening hours may be required..
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
Experience working with school-aged children.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in education or related field
Experience teaching school-aged children
Experience working with twice-exceptional youth
