Job description: 

 

The Extracurricular (EC) Teacher is responsible for planning activities for our Physical Education (PE), Art, and Yoga programs, as well as managing our after-school program. The EC teacher will create and implement a comprehensive curriculum for each extracurricular activity and the after-school program, ensuring a dynamic and enriching experience for all students. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Curriculum Planning and Implementation: 

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for PE, Art, and Yoga activities that align with Montessori principles and enhance students' physical, creative, and mental well-being.
  • Design and organize the after-school program curriculum, incorporating a variety of engaging and educational activities. 

 

Student Guidance & Instruction: 

  • Conduct group activities for students, demonstrating the proper use of materials and guiding students in their exploration and understanding. 
  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere by promoting independence, self-directed learning, and respect among students. 
  • Provide guidance and support to students as they engage with materials and explore their interests. 

Classroom Management: 

  • Manage and oversee extracurricular classes and after-school program sessions, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintain a well-organized and harmonious class environment by setting ground rules and expectations for behavior, teaching students the proper care and use of materials, and fostering a sense of respect and cooperation among students.  
  • Model and encourage positive behavior, resolve classroom conflicts, and address disciplinary issues when necessary. 
  • Ensure the classroom environment and materials are clean, safe, and well-maintained.  
  • Monitor and maintain extracurricular supplies and learning materials. 

Professional Development & Community Engagement: 

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to deepen your understanding of Montessori philosophy, methodology, and best practices. 
  • Participate in staff meetings and adhere to all MGRI policies and procedures. 
  • Attend special events on the academic calendar as needed. 

Closing Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the closing procedures for the after-school program, ensuring all students are safely picked up by authorized guardians.
  • Secure the classroom and activity areas, ensuring all equipment and materials are properly stored and the spaces are clean and organized.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and any incidents that occur during the after-school program.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field. (preferred)
  • Previous experience teaching PE, Art, Yoga, or related extracurricular activities, preferably in a Montessori setting.
  • Strong organizational and curriculum development skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Passion for working with children and a commitment to their holistic development.

Start date: August 5th, 2024

Schedule:

  • 10am-6pm Monday - Thursday
  • 8am-4pm  Fridays
